Washington,
DC (LifeNews.com) -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is coming under
heavy criticism today from those who say she implied children hurt
the economy. Pelosi made the comments in an interview with ABC News
over the weekend defending a decision to include a bailout for the
abortion industry in the economic stimulus bill.
As LifeNews.com is reporting today, the Democrats' stimulus plan now includes a measure to send more public funds to the Planned Parenthood abortion business to fund contraception and birth control.
In an interview with George Stephanopoulos Sunday morning on ABC's "This Week," Pelosi defended the move and helping during a tough economic situation.
"Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children's health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs," she said.
Catholic League president Bill Donohue responded to the comments and told LifeNews.com he think Pelosi is saying the birth of children hurts the economy.
Looks like the Democrats have abortion and contraception on the brain. Last week, President Barack Obama lifted restrictions on federal funds being used to promote and perform abortions overseas," he said.
"Now we have Pelosi arguing that the way to balance the budget is not by cutting expenditures, but by cutting kids," he added.
Donohue told LifeNews.com, "Her comment matches up well with what Obama said during the presidential campaign about comprehensive sex education: speaking of his own daughters, he said that if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby."
We
have reached a new low when high-ranking public office holders in
the federal government cast children as the enemy. But at least it
explains their enthusiasm for abortion-on-demand," he concluded.
