Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Leading pro-life advocates are not happy that incoming president Barack Obama is considering Jane Henney to become the next head of the Food and Drug Administration. Henney is a former FDA chief who oversaw the approval of the dangerous RU 486 abortion drug during the end of the Clinton administration.

Obama is considering appointing the University of Cincinnati professor to a second stint leading the agency.

The possible appointment is not going over well with Wendy Wright, the president of Concerned Women for America, who tells LifeNews.com that it would be a disaster for women.

“Under Jane Henney’s previous leadership, the FDA gave in completely to abortion groups’ demands about RU 486," she said.

Wright says her group has repeatedly pointed out both how the FDA was lax in its oversight on approving the mifepristone abortion drug and how it has harmed women -- killing 14 worldwide and injuring more than 1,100 in the U.S. alone.

"CWA chronicled how the FDA neglected it’s standards, and even the law, to approve RU-486 in the waning days of the Clinton Administration," she said.

"We only need to look back at that debacle that led to numerous women’s and untold numbers of babies’ deaths to see how the FDA would be led if Henney were FDA commissioner again," Wright said. "Women’s safety would take a backseat to abortion politics and put patient’s lives at risk.”

The women injured by the drug have suffered from complications ranging from failed abortions and parts of the unborn baby remaining following the abortion to hospitalizations and the need for complete blood transfusions.

Members of Obama's transition team contacted Henney about potentially heading up the FDA again and she has reportedly expressed interest in returning to her old job.

Following her time at the Food and Drug Administration, Henney served as Vice President and provost at the University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center.

Obama also picked pro-abortion former Sen. Tom Daschle as his Health Secretary -- and Henney's selection would put two abortion advocates in key health-related positions.

Should Obama pick Henney for the position, it would be another in a long line of former Clinton administration officials becoming a part of his "change" administration.

Obama has already named pro-abortion former Clinton chief of staff Leon Panetta to head the CIA, pro-abortion Clinton deputy Attorney General Eric Holder as his Attorney General nominee, and pro-abortion top Clinton adviser Rahm Emmanuel as his chief of staff.

Obama has also come under criticism for naming Dawn Johnsen, a former NARAL attorney, as a top White House legal counsel and he made the attorney for Terri Schiavo's husband the third-ranking Justice Department official.

In addition, Obama is naming pro-abortion Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine to serve as the next chairman of the national Democratic Party.
