Colorado Springs, CO (LifeNews.com) -- Leading pro-life advocate James Dobson, the founder and president of Focus on the Family, issued words of support Monday for presidential candidate John McCain. Dobson said he supports McCain over Barack Obama in part because of their differences on abortion.

On his radio program, Dobson read from a letter from Focus on the Family Action, the group's political outreach, and said he was sending a copy of it to Focus supporters soon.

In the letter, Dobson explains why “those who embrace a biblical worldview” must vote for McCain.

Dobson indicated he is not officially endorsing McCain, but saying he "supports" him because he has some disagreements with the Arizona senator.

"While I will not endorse either candidate this year, (in fact, I've only endorsed one presidential nominee in my life) I can say that I am now supportive of Senator John McCain and his bid for the presidency," he said.

Dobson said, "America's future seems to hang in the balance" with the results of the presidential election.

Dobson listed several reasons why he is supporting McCain over Obama and will vote for him.

He said McCain opposes abortion while Obama is one of the more pro-abortion presidential candidates in modem times. He praised McCain for allowing a strong pro-life statement in the Republican Party platform and for selecting pro-life Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate.

"It's probably obvious which of the two major candidates' views are most palatable to those of us who embrace a pro-life, pro-family worldview," Dobson said.

"My concern is for the biblical and moral issues that I and millions of Americans hold dear," Dobson added. "I will gladly support politicians of any stripe who are willing to defend the sanctity of human life."

"While certainly not perfect, the 2008 Republican Platform comes closest to embracing those ideals by a wide margin," he continued.

Dobson harshly criticized Obama for his pro-abortion views and for picking pro-abortion Joe Biden as his running mate.

He said the elections "will also go a long way toward determining the culture your children and grandchildren will come to realize. I hope you will vote with your children and your children's children in mind."
