Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Presidential candidate John McCain mentioned his pro-life views on abortion in his acceptance speech Thursday night at the Republican convention. The Arizona senator talked about the inalienable right to life and also mentioned his concern about judges who legislate from the bench, such as those who invented the so-called right to abortion.

“We’re dedicated to the proposition that all people are created equal and endowed by our Creator with inalienable rights. No country ever had a greater cause than that,” McCain said.Later in the speech, McCain talked about his desire to build a “culture of life” -- a clear reference to opposing abortion.

McCain also mentioned he supports the “rule of law” and “and judges who dispense justice impartially and don’t legislate from the bench.”

Opposing abortion, supporting a pro-life culture and making a commitment to the kind of judges who would give the pro-life community a chance to overturn Roe v. Wade is exactly what one pro-life leader said she wanted to hear.

Marjorie Dannenfelser, the president of the Susan B. Anthony List said McCain’s speech served as a reminder to voters that McCain opposes abortion while Obama supports it.

“John McCain has cemented his role as the one true, authentically pro-life choice for President,” she told LifeNews.com after the speech

.“Last night John McCain reiterated his commitment to building a culture of life,” she said. “His words, on the heels of his choice of pro-life heroine Sarah Palin for VP, are exactly what pro-life voters needed to hear. The enthusiasm of values voters shown this week for the McCain-Palin ticket drives home the saliency of the abortion issue in this election.”

On the other hand, Dannenfelser pointed out how Obama is trying to use the abortion issue to attack McCain, as he did in a recent radio ad blasting McCain for wanting Roe reversed.

“Just this week Barack Obama tried to paint John McCain as extreme on abortion, but it won’t work,” she told LifeNews.com. “The truth is, the majority of Americans support commonsense restrictions on abortion. From parental consent measures to banning the gruesome partial birth abortion procedure, John McCain and Sarah Palin best represent America’s pro-life views.”

“If anyone is outside the mainstream, it’s Barack Obama, who thinks babies that survive abortions should be left on the table to die. The pro-abortion extremism of the Obama-Biden ticket will certainly cost them votes, and maybe even the election this November,” she said.
