Springs, CO (LifeNews.com) -- Leading pro-life advocate James
Dobson says presidential candidate John McCain’s decision to make
pro-life champion Sarah Palin as his running mate has made it so
he can give his support for McCain. Dobson had previously indicated
he might not vote at all in the contest between McCain and pro-abortion
candidate Barack Obama.
"If I went into the polling booth today, I would pull the lever
for John McCain," he said.In a new radio broadcast to hundreds
of Christian stations that air his show, Dobson calls Palin a “genuine
reformer” and “deeply committed Christian.”
Dobson said he was elated to see Palin’s pro-life views and how
she has personally put them into action.
“Gov. Palin’s commitment to the sanctity of life is not just a political
position. She was advised to abort her fifth and youngest child
when it was learned he had Down syndrome. She refused. That’s bravery
and integrity in action,” he said.
Dobson said Palin’s selection also speaks volumes about Senator McCain and where he would take the country vis-à-vis pro-life issues and the direction of Roe v. Wade.
“Palin’s
views align with Sen. McCain’s own stated position that human life
is precious and must be protected – and that gives us confidence
he will keep his pledges to voters regarding the kinds of justices
he would nominate to the Supreme Court,” he said.
Dobson appears to have the same excitement as LifeNews.com has seen
in St. Paul at the Republican convention.
“Sen. McCain’s selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is an outstanding
choice that should be extremely reassuring to the conservative base
of his party,” he explained.
“After floating the names of Tom Ridge and Sen. Joe Lieberman in
recent weeks – selections that would have created consternation
among pro-family Republicans – Sen. McCain has chosen a solid conservative
who has a reputation for espousing common sense,” he added.
Dobson also said he joins the millions of pro-life Americans who
are now energized about John McCain because of the selection of
Sarah Palin.
"I don't remember this kind of electric moment since I went
to the inauguration of Ronald Reagan," Dobson said.
