Washington,
DC (LifeNews.com) -- Politicians of all stripes may say they’re
pro-life, but it’s quite another thing to put those beliefs into
practice with concrete actions. Two pro-life groups say Sarah Palin
did that when she rejected an abortion on her physically disabled
unborn child and they say it reminds them of the decision John McCain’s
family made to adopt a girl from Mother Teresa’s orphanage.
Brian Burch, the president of Fidelis noted how Palin made the news
earlier this year with the birth of her fifth child, whom she welcomed
into life despite a pre-natal diagnosis that revealed the baby had
Down syndrome.
The governor made national headlines when she proclaimed: “I’m looking at him right now, and I see perfection. Yeah, he has an extra chromosome. I keep thinking, in our world, what is normal and what is perfect?”
Burch said McCain, “also matched his 20-year pro-life voting record with his family’s own commitment to life.”
Few people know the story of McCain's youngest child.
As
a result of a 1991 Cindy McCain visit to Mother Teresa's orphanage
in Bangladesh, the McCains adopted an infant daughter dying from
a host of health issues.
The orphanage could not provide the medical care needed to save
the little girl's life, so the McCains, already the parents of six
children, brought the child home to America, and paid for desperately
needed surgeries and years of rehabilitation.
That child is their teenage daughter Bridget. In fact, there was
a second infant girl brought back from the orphanage that the McCains
saved. She ended up being adopted by one of McCain's aides, Wes
Gullett, and his wife.
“In both cases, we see true pro-family leaders. They stand up strong
for life in the halls of power but also live the message of life
in their families,” Burch told LifeNews.com.
Yoest
told LifeNews.com that McCain’s and Palin’s actions and words point
to the key differences between them and their pro-abortion rivals
Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
"The Republican ticket stands in stark contrast to the stridently
pro-abortion ticket put forth by the Democratic party," she
said. "You can be sure the vice presidential selections will
have far-reaching ramifications in this race."
Obama came under fire for appearing to back a potential decision by his daughters to seek an abortion saying he wouldn't "punish" them with a baby.
