Denver, CO (LifeNews.com) -- The first incident at the Democratic Party national convention in Denver occurred before the gavel fell at the opening of the event. A pro-life pastor, who says he is upset with the party because of its pro-abortion position, spoke to an interfaith gathering with comments blasting Barack Obama.

In its first "official event" of the convention, which will see tens of thousands of party members coronate the pro-abortion presidential candidate, Pentecostal preacher and Bishop Charles E. Blake of the Church of God in Christ, took to the pulpit.

Bishop Blake unequivocally denounced abortion, saying God could not be pleased with millions of lives being ended by elective abortion.

He called on Obama to "follow through on his promise ... to reduce the number of abortions," by doing more than mentioning it in the platform.

"Surely we cannot be pleased with ... millions of terminated pregnancies," he said. "Something within us must be calling for a better way. If we do not resist at this point, at what point will we resist?"

Two other men interrupted the event, with one man shouting, "Obama is a baby killer" and another yelling, "Obama supports the murder of children by abortion."

Rev. Rob Schenck, who was present at the event, told LifeNews.com, the incident was "an amazing development."

"Bishop Blake was crystal clear in condemning abortion. There was nothing subtle about it. He identified himself as a pro-life Democrat and blatantly challenged his party's historic position on abortion," Schenck said.

"He also challenged Barack Obama to pursue his promise to reduce abortions and to ensure 'viable' alternatives. Just this one moment is a significant turn for the Democratic Party," he added.

Schenck said the hall, filled with several thousand Democratic activists, fell uneasily silent as Blake spoke against abortion.
