Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- One of the nation's top pro-life organizations is asking pro-life advocates to contact the American Psychological Association and urge calls and emails concerning its recent abortion report. The APA dismissed insurmountable evidence that abortion causes mental health problems for women.

The new report concluded women who have abortions may experience some grief and a sense of loss, but it claimed there is no evidence showing abortion causes significant mental health issues like depression.

The group's conclusions weren't a surprise because of the stacked panel that evaluated the research.

Still, Tony Perkins, the president of the Family Research Council, is calling on pro-life advocates to make their voices heard in response.

He told LifeNews.com the APA assessment "released a heavily biased report with a sweeping pro-abortion conclusion based upon one solitary study -- to the detriment of American women's health."

"The APA needs to hear from you that a new, more-scientifically based report is needed," he said. "Any research needs to be broader in scope and include studies that this report ignored."

He said the APA should have looked at studies "that have highlighted the high prevalence of women affected by repeat abortions or studies that have shown an equally high number of women in the U.S. who have felt 'coerced' into their abortions."

"There is a growing body of testimony from real women who have suffered from abortion," he said.

Perkins asks pro-life advocates to, "Please contact Dr. Alan E. Kazdin, the current President of the American Psychological Association, and let him know that this biased report does further harm to women by covering up the truth."

The group provides a handy form to use to do that.
