Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The Barack Obama campaign has issued another response to the criticism levied against him for voting against bills that would have protected babies who survive botched abortions. While pro-life groups have accused Obama of supporting infanticide, his campaign calls such comments "offensive and insulting."

The bills specifically would have made sure newborns who are purposefully born premature to be left to die or survive botched abortions will receive appropriate medical care.

The Obama campaign sent the statement, with another attack on pro-life groups following Obama's own comments claiming pro-life advocates had lied about him, to CBN News correspondent David Brody.

"The recent attacks on Senator Obama that allege he would allow babies born alive to die are outrageous lies," the campaign said.

"The suggestion that Obama – the proud father of two little girls – and others who opposed these bills supported infanticide is deeply offensive and insulting," the Obama camp added. "There is no room for these kinds of distortions and lies in this campaign."

The statement goes on to repeat the now-discredited claims that Obama opposed the Illinois version of the Born Alive Infants Protection Act because it did not have wording found in a federal bill that makes it neutral with respect to the Roe v. Wade decision.

Yet, as National Right to Life exposed by producing documents from the Illinois legislature, Obama voted for an amendment to do just that and then voted to defeat the bill.

"What Senator Obama’s attackers don’t tell you [is that] Obama voted against these laws in Illinois because they were clear attempts to undermine Roe v. Wade," the campaign added. "The bills Senator Obama voted against in Illinois were crafted to undermine Roe v. Wade."

Responding to the statement, Brody said that it does not address the fundamental concern that Obama misled the public about his reasons for opposing the anti-infanticide legislation.

"They do not address National Right to Life’s main contention that Obama misrepresented the situation," Brody explained.

"While they agree that the 2003 Illinois bill and the federal bill had the same language, they won’t concede the point that Senator Obama is pulling a fast one on the American public," he added.
