Denver, CO (LifeNews.com) -- Democratic senator Bob Casey will address party activists at the Democratic convention in Denver next week but one leading pro-life commentator says that won't make the party any less pro-abortion. National Review editor Kathryn Jean Lopez says Casey's own record is suspect as is the lack of opposition.

Case, who has endorsed pro-abortion presidential candidate Barack Obama, received a prime time television speaking slot.

But Lopez writes in an editorial Monday that Casey is not necessarily the pro-life stalwart the media describes.

"Sixty-five percent. That's Pennsylvania Sen. Robert Casey Jr.'s rating with NARAL Pro-Choice America, the standard measure for a politician's abortion-rights-advocacy purity," she explains.

"Sixty-five percent -- voting with NARAL two out of three times -- does not a pro-life Democrat make," Lopez writes. "And yet, when the Dems announced that Casey would be speaking at their convention in Denver, it was widely accepted that he could be described as a pro-life presence there."

Lopez also notes that there would be more opposition to Casey speaking -- as there was for his father, former Gov. Bob Casey, when he was kicked out of the 1992 Democratic convention -- if Casey represented a consistent pro-life message or planned to discuss pro-life themes.

"One indicator of Casey's false colors -- besides his voting record -- that shows his comfortable alignment with the same old pro-abortion puppet masters dominating the Democratic Party could be discerned in the absence of outcry from groups like NARAL," Lopez says.

"This lack of protest is telling," she said, citing the problems Casey the elder faced.

"Allowing his son to speak is meant to be a signal that times have changed, that although the Democratic leadership has not altered its stance toward abortion, it has shifted toward compromise," she said.

"Too bad it's all bunk," Lopez added citing the party's looming decision to ratify a strongly pro-abortion platform.

Yet the differences between the two Caseys appears lost on the mainstream media.

"He is just pro-life enough to serve the purposes of the Democratic Party," she says.

"Democrats are going to continue to say what they think Catholics and pro-lifers want to hear on abortion, to the extent they can without the abortion industry pulling the plug," she concludes. "Don't let them abort the facts."
