Denver, CO (LifeNews.com) -- When Democrats from across the country arrive in Denver for the national convention, they will have an opportunity to discuss abortion with some of the leading pro-life Democrats. While their party has nominated a pro-abortion stalwart, Democrats for Life hopes to work to reduce abortions.

On Wednesday, August 27, Democrats for Life of America will sponsor a town hall with a pro-abortion Democrat and pro-life Democrat to find ways to achieve common ground to lower the number of abortions.

Congressman Lincoln Davis of Tennessee and Tennessee Senate candidate Bob Tuke, who is running against pro-life Sen. Lamar Alexander, will headline the forum.

“We are excited to have Congressman Davis and U.S Senate Nominee Bob Tuke representing pro-life and pro-choice viewpoints," DFLA director Kristen Day told LifeNews.com.

Day hopes the participants and audience can come together to support a proposal her group favors -- the 95-10 initiative that aims to reduce abortions 95 percent within 10 years after Congress adopts it.

Despite their disagreement on legalized abortion itself, Day says Tuke and Davis agree on the proposed legislation.

"Both support the Pregnant Women’s Support Act that will reduce the abortion rate in America by 95% over the next 10 years," she told Lifenews.com. "This discussion will prove that hope and change are possible in Washington if we focus on creating solutions based on shared values."

"Democrats For Life of America drafted the 95-10 Initiative to end the debate on abortion by promoting policies to bring pro-life and pro-choice people together to support and empower women to carry their pregnancies to term," Day says.

The measure includes both tangible measures that will directly reduce abortions, such as enforcing parental involvement laws and supporting crisis pregnancy centers as well as indirect measures like better health care and child care to help women who may have abortions because of financial pressures.

The measure has never received a vote in Congress.

During the convention, the group will also hold another Hall of Fame dinner and a leadership award for those pro-life Democrats not just willing to vote pro-life but who stand up and take the heat in a party dominated by the abortion industry.

Previous winners include Congressman Bart Stupak (D-MI), Congressman Tim Roemer (D-IN), Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE) and Ambassador Tony Hall.

"It is easy to quietly be a pro-life Democrat and vote at the polls. But it is sometimes hard to stand up for these principles in the face of a sometimes hostile crowd and put your reputation on the line in defense of our philosophy," Day says.
