Pro-Abortion Group Castigates Ted Kennedy for Endorsing Barack Obama

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The feud within pro-abortion circles continues between supporters of Barack Obama and those who back Hillary Clinton. Just one day after NARAL called on abortion advocates to stop attacking each other, the New York chapter of NOW castigated Ted Kennedy for endorsing Obama over Clinton.

Kennedy, the long-time pro-abortion Massachusetts senator, has backed his Illinois colleague and NOW activists in New York are upset.

“Women have just experienced the ultimate betrayal," the NOW chapter said in a statement. "Senator Kennedy’s endorsement of Hillary Clinton’s opponent in the Democratic presidential primary campaign has really hit women hard."

Despite his adamant pro-abortion views, NOW-New York said Kennedy has given them the "greatest betrayal."

"We are repaid with his abandonment," the group added. "He’s picked the new guy over us. He’s joined the list of progressive white men who can't or won't handle the prospect of a woman president who is Hillary Clinton."

“This latest move by Kennedy, is so telling about the status of and respect for women’s rights, women’s voices, women’s equality, women’s authority," the group added.

The condemnation forced the National Organization for Women's national office to put out a conciliatory statement to repair the damage its New York chapter inflicted on their pro-abortion friend.

"The National Organization for Women has enormous respect and admiration for Sen. Edward Kennedy," NOW said. "For decades Sen. Kennedy has been a friend of NOW, and a leader and fighter for [abortion] ... and his record shows that."

"Though the National Organization for Women Political Action Committee has proudly endorsed Sen. Hillary Clinton for president, we respect Sen. Kennedy's endorsement," it added.

Pro-life advocate Jill Stanek profiled the fight on her blog and called the NOW-NY flogging of Kennedy a "whopper of a rant, verging on hysterical, which doesn't bode well for the group."

She said she was surprised to see the chapter's statement given NARAL president Nancy Keenan's "plea for the factions of the abortion cabal to stop verbally aborting one another."

"This is really a remarkable display of total loss of control and Keenan saw it coming," Stanek added. "Liberals, who always try so hard to put on a unified face, are fracturing."
