Washington,
DC (LifeNews.com) -- They're on the front line in the abortion battle
helping women every day who find themselves in a situation having to
choose between abortion and keeping their baby. Pregnancy centers provide
counseling and practical help that give young women support in a difficult
situation and now they're the recipient of a national award.
World Magazine, a Christian publication with a long-time pro-life focus, has chosen the pregnancy center movement as its "Daniel of the Year."
The award points out the underdogs of the world focused on helping others.
Similar to Time magazine's "Person of the Year" but with a different focus, World Magazine names a "Daniel of the Year" -- a person or group of people whose "faith in God gave them the strength to stand up against tyrants who tried to put themselves in God's place."
Care Net President Melinda Delahoyde told LifeNews.com she was delighted that the magazine chose to honor the work pregnancy centers do in helping women avoid abortions.
"Because of the support of pregnancy centers, women in crisis have been transformed, new life has been embraced, and families across this nation have been forever changed," she said.
"All who have worked, volunteered, or donated time and resources to pregnancy centers deserve America's wholehearted thanks and praise," Delahoyde added.
Her group is a national network of 1,100 pregnancy centers across North America and it operates a prominent web site and 1-800 number that help pregnant women in need.
In
the case of this year's "Daniel," pregnancy center directors
and volunteers have been
honored for standing up to those forces and circumstances in a woman's
life that seemingly point to abortion.
In
its "Daniel" feature, WORLD magazine's editor Marvin Olasky
highlighted the work of Wanda Kohn, director of Pregnancy Care Center
in Leesburg, Florida, to represent the work of the thousands of women
and men who serve in pregnancy centers
This is the second time this year that pregnancy centers have been
on the cover of a national magazine.
Time magazine featured pregnancy centers in its February 26 issue, calling them "the new face of an old movement."
