Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Pro-life advocates appeared to have lost both the Senate and the House of Representatives in yesterday's elections. That's troublesome news for pro-life groups who are concerned about stopping the advance of pro-abortion legislation, and it means a tough two years as pro-life bills won't likely make much progress.

At press time it appeared Democrats would control the House on a 226-195 margin. The Senate appears to be headed to a 51-49 Democratic control.

Meanwhile, should a Supreme Court justice retire in the next two years, President Bush will apparently have a combative Senate that won't have a Republican majority to help him get nominees to the Senate floor.

Whether a bipartisan group that helped stopped filibusters before will remain intact is questionable.

Pro-life groups are also worried that abortion advocates will use House committees to take on abstinence education and crisis pregnancy centers.

The results will likely make it so pro-life advocates will have a difficult time stopping the advance of abortion, human cloning and embryonic stem cell research in Congress.

Republicans appeared to have failed to win races in Virginia, Missouri, Montana and Maryland they needed to win to keep the majority.
