Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Tens of thousands of pro-life students wore pro-life t-shirts to school yesterday as they marked National Pro-life T-shirt Day. However, the shirts didn't meet with approval at every school.

"Pro-life youth were out in full force, spreading the truth about abortion," the youth-oriented pro-life organization Rock for Life said about Tuesday's event. "Ultimately their witness will save the lives of many babies and spare many parents from the trauma associated with abortion."

Over 500 teens participated in the event in at Notre Dame High School in Easton, Pennsylvania and Rock for Life reports that other schools had hundreds of students participating.

In most instances, students had no problems expressing their views on the controversial issue.

However, students at Milford High School in Massachusetts run into objections from school officials. They were ordered to put tape over a message on their shirts saying abortion "kills kids." Those who did not want to comply were told to wear jackets during the school time or to go home for the day.

Rock for Life representatives said they are working with the students to fight the censorship.

Meanwhile, two students in Virginia were told to turn their shirts inside out or to go home and change. The students showed the principal a letter defending the students' rights previously prepared by the Thomas More Law Center, a pro-life law firm.

The school administrator told the students, "I don't want to see it -- although I agree with everything the shirts reads." He told the students the t-shirts weren't the problem but rather the debate they sparked.

Students have also had problems in previous years the group sponsored the event.

A Virginia Beach recanted in the face of a lawsuit by Thomas More that said it was wrong to prohibit a student from wearing his pro-life t-shirt. An assistant principal told Denbigh High School student Daniel Goergen that he had to remove the pro-life sweatshirt or turn it inside out.

Meanwhile, in Florida, a pro-life student received detention for wearing a pro-life t-shirt. The school eventually relented and she did not serve out the detention.
