New York, NY (LifeNews.com) -- Abortion advocates operating on an international scale outpace the pro-life movement financially, but not when it comes to the support of real people. A leading pro-life group has proved that by outpacing its pro-abortion opponents 40-1 in a petition campaign slated for the United Nations in December.

The British-based abortion business Marie Stopes International launched a petition effort and, after a year of campaigning, only gathered 500 signatures.

MSI now reportedly has just 650, but that pales in comparison to the 26,000 the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute has compiled.

Writing in the organization's Friday Fax, C-FAM staffer Samantha Singson says MSI has brought in so few signatures from abortion advocates that it has removed an imagine on its web site keeping track of the numbers.

Singson says the C-FAM petition "has generated a massive response from concerned pro-lifers from around the globe."

"The Marie Stopes campaign was launched at the International Global Safe Abortion Conference last October in London, an event held in conjunction with the Women Deliver conference, which was sponsored by various United Nations agencies including UNICEF," Singson wrote in the Friday Fax.

"Both the conference and the campaign seek to bolster international commitment to abortion and call 'for women’s access to legal, safe abortion to be recognized as a fundamental human right,'" she wrote.

"Campaign organizers plan to continue to collect signatures online and will seek institutional endorsement of the safe abortion call to action. They hope the call to action will be used at the international level as a tool to influence policy and generate funding to tackle the issue of unsafe abortion," Singson added.

On the other hand, the C-FAM petition urges nations that belong to the UN to rely on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to provide legal support for the right to life of unborn children.

The C-FAM petition says the right to life of every human being, from conception to natural death, each child having the right to be conceived, born and educated within the family, based on marriage between a woman and a man, the family being the natural and fundamental group unit of society.”

Singson notes that the C-FAM campaign will run until the end of November and will continue in conjunction with partner organizations. The petition is circulating globally in French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Dutch and Slovenian.

MSI and C-FAM will present the petition signatures to the UN community on December 10, which marks the 60th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

C-FAM President Austin Ruse told his Friday Fax publication, "We have known all along that support for radical abortion rights is supported mostly by elites. Ask everyday citizens around the world about abortion, and they are against it."
