Beijing, China (LifeNews.com) -- A Chinese man appeared before a court on trial for killing his pregnant wife after stabbing her more than 30 times following her refusal to have an abortion. Chen Min had accused his wife of having an affair and having someone else's baby, but he has admitted he knew he was the father of the child.

Shanghai No. 1 Prosecutors' Office said the 30-year-old man killed his wife after she refused his suggestion to have an abortion. During the trial prosecutors added that DNA tests confirmed Chen was the father of the baby.

Xiao Ying was five months pregnant at the time of her death and she became pregnant one month after the couple met. They were married last July, according to a Shanghai Daily report.

Prosecutors say Chen twice tried to talk Xiao into having an abortion and, after the second refusal, he grabbed a knife and repeatedly stabbed her in the stomach and chest.

Last December, in another case, a Chinese man was sentenced to death for burning his girlfriend and causing her severe burns after she refused to have a sex-selection abortion.

The man, referred to only as Wang in official Chinese media reports, received the death sentence from the Shenyang Intermediate People's Court.

He met his 24 year-old girlfriend Sun in 2006 and began living together. Sun became pregnant and, six months into the pregnancy, she found out that her unborn child was a girl.
Wang pressured Sun to have an abortion, but she refused.

According to the Xinhua news agency, Wang poured gasoline on Sun and set her ablaze. Neighbors heard Sun screaming as she ran out of the couple's home.

They doused the fire and rushed her to a local hospital, but Sun suffered severe burns on 30 percent of her skin and her lungs and face were damaged as well. The unborn child was killed as a result of the attack.
