MPs Want Clearer Law on Abortion of Disables Unborn Babies
London, England (LifeNews.com) -- Members of the British Parliament
want a clearer law on when disabled unborn children can become victims
of abortions. They saw the current law is meant to allow abortions
only in severe, life-threatening conditions and that it is being used
to allow abortions on babies with treatable or non-terminal conditions.
The Commons science and technology committee is investigating whether
the legal limit for abortion should be cut from 24 weeks of pregnancy.
It is also looking at whether a better definition of disability is
needed for late-term abortions. Between 2002 and 2005, 117 babies
with club feet, cleft palates or lips, or webbed or extra fingers
and toes were aborted in a single region of England. More than 400
babies with Down syndrome die every year from abortions in the UK.
Most of these abortions took place before the 24-week limit, but the
procedure can be performed until birth if there is a "substantial
risk" the baby will suffer a "serious handicap." However
the law does not define "serious" and leaves the decision
to abortion practitioners.
Wisconsin
Ban on Forced Abortions Gets Backing of Post-Abortion Group
Madison, WI (LifeNews.com) -- The Coercive Abortion Prevention
Act (AB 427) in Wisconsin would protect women who are being coerced
into having abortions against their will. The legislation will be
voted on by the State Assembly on Tuesday. The Silent No More Awareness
Campaign has endorsed the bill. Georgette Forney, co-founder of the
group, said "In recent months alone, we've seen numerous high
profile news stories about women threatened and intimidated by their
parents, boyfriends, and others into having abortions. I know from
talking to thousands of women that these are not isolated cases. I
also know that the pain and torment caused by an abortion can only
be magnified when a woman submits involuntarily to the taking of her
child. I don't see how anyone could oppose the measure." At a
public hearing held on this bill on September 13 before the Assembly
Judiciary and Ethics Committee, courageous Wisconsin women told their
personal stories regarding their own experiences with coerced abortions.
Also testifying were representatives of organizations who counsel
women who have had abortions, including those who have been coerced
into having abortions.
Aurora,
Illinois Pro-Life Advocates Continued Protest at Planned Parenthood
Aurora, IL (LifeNews.com) -- Pro-life advocates in the Illinois
city continued their efforts against a new Planned Parenthood abortion
center that just opened there. On Saturday, they held a large protest
a the 3051 E. New York Street facility. The protest, organized by
the Pro-Life Action League, is the third significant demonstration
over the past two months seeing as many as 1,200 pro-life advocates
gathering at one time. The opening of the facility, scheduled for
mid-September, was delayed for two and a half weeks while investigations
were conducted into the seemingly deceptive process in which Planned
Parenthood received their occupancy and building permits. Amid much
controversy, the facility opened on October 2nd. Pro-life community
members have vowed to stay the course. “Steve Trombley of Planned
Parenthood stated that our numbers and our zeal would die once they
opened. He was wrong!” the group's leader Eric Scheidler said. “We
will be at this facility until abortions are no longer performed and
this deceitful business is out of our city. We will be a peaceful,
ever-present reminder of the atrocities that go on inside those walls
and a constant thorn in Planned Parenthood’s side.”
