Canada's Facebook Experiment Shows Abortion Law Not So Popular

Ottawa, Canada (LifeNews.com) -- A prominent media outlet in Canada got a rude shock when it conducted an experiment on the popular community web site Facebook and found that the number one desire of Canadians was to end abortion. The CBC saw more than 16,000 people respond to its Great Canadian Wishlist.

The CBC likely thought the more liberal residents of the country would pick another political topic to advocate or would be more likely to support abortion.

However, Canadians proved the media elite wrong and showed the pro-life movement is alive and well.

With 9,543 supporters the number one wish is to "Abolish abortion in Canada."

Jim Hughes, the president of the Campaign Life Coalition, one of the leading pro-life groups in the country, said he was pleased by the results but not surprised.

"This should come as no surprise to anyone," he said in a statement LifeNews.com obtained.

"We have always noted and the polls have confirmed that the majority of Canadians want protection for the unborn child," Hughes explained. "This poll of sorts by the CBC and Facebook only confirms what we have been saying all along."

Mary Ellen Douglas, the pro-life group's national organizer, added that "With almost 10,000 people taking the trouble to respond to this request for their opinion, I trust that the CBC will publish this list, highlighting the number one wish for Canada."

She said political leaders there should begin paying attention to the fact that pro-life Canadians are not happy with the current state of legalized abortion on demand.

"The politicians must also take note that this is an issue that will not go away until justice for the unborn becomes a reality," she said.
