St. Louis, MO (LifeNews.com) -- Actor Michael J. Fox, who has become one of the leading celebrity advocates for embryonic stem cell research, held a fundraiser for pro-abortion Senate candidate Claire McCaskill Thursday. He also took occasion to plug the state ballot initiative to promote the destructive research and human cloning.

"I'm a one-issue guy," Fox said, admitting that he's become known as the actor who promotes destroying human life for potential cures from a controversial research.

he told AP that his foundation now has $100 million and is the largest financial backer of Parkinson's research apart from the federal government.

The Fox $500 a plate dinner coincided with three new ads McCaskill's campaign launched promoting embryonic stem cell research and attacking her opponent, pro-life Sen. Jim Talent.

Talent spokesman Rich Chrismer told AP the senator opposes the measure because it "would create an unqualified constitutional right to clone" human beings.

He also said it is wrong to assume that Talent opposes stem cell research in general.

"Sen. Talent has supported more than $2.2 billion for stem cell research," he said. "He strongly supports the stem cell alternatives that have the potential to provide us with the stem cells we want to relieve human suffering without cloning."

"We definitely appreciate that Jim Talent sees this as human cloning and is opposed to the amendment," Missourians Against Human Cloning director Jaci Winship told AP in response.
