Clearwater, FL (LifeNews.com) -- It was the ultimate slap in the face to Terri Schiavo's parents. While they were spending years in a heart-wrenching battle to save their daughter's life, her estranged husband was having an affair with a woman and eventually had two children with her. The couple got married on Saturday.

Michael Schiavo and Jodi Centonze were married on Saturday in a private ceremony at a small church.

Michael won the years-long legal battle in his effort to euthanize Terri and she died from a nearly two week long painful starvation and dehydration death at the end of March.

"It was very emotional," John Centonze told the Associated Press after the brief wedding. "It's been a long time coming. A lot of things happened in between."

The couple applied for a marriage license on Friday and did not make any public statements. The two met at a dentist's office after Michael put Terri in a nursing home for long-term care -- 10 years before Terri was killed.

On the license, Michael indicated his last marriage ended in death on March 31, 2005. Centonze was divorced in 1989.

Michael Hirsh, who is helping Michael write a book, said about 80 people attended.

Jodi played a role during the battle between Michael and Terri's family and was often designated to be the person in the room whenever Terri's family would visit her in the hospital or her nursing home. The Schiavo family found that insulting.

In the final couple of days leading up to Terri's death, her mother, Mary Schiavo, pleaded with Michael and Jodi to move on and let her and her family care for Terri.

"Michael and Jodi, you have your own children. Please, please give my child back to me," she said.

Michael also refused repeated requests from Terri's family to divorce her. Had he done so he would have lost any right to control her medical care and obtain the remainder of a $1.5 million malpractice award.

Since Terri's death, Michael has created a political action committee he says will target pro-life lawmakers who helped Terri's family try to care for their daughter.
