Irish politician Lucinda Creighton has today announced plans to set up a new political party in eight weeks’ time.

LucindaCreightonSpeaking at a press conference today in Dublin, Ms. Creighton described the party as “hugely ambitious, bold and brave” which has the potential to win “many, many seats”.

Together with recruiter Eddie Hobbs and independent councillor John Leahy, she appealed to the public to get involved in the new party, which is as yet unnamed, but which will offer a real change to the Irish political scene.

“I am here because I believe Irish people deserve a genuine choice at the next election. It is my intention to provide that choice,” Ms. Creighton said at today’s press conference.

She also stressed that members of the party will be free to adopt their own position on issues of conscience.  This will come as a welcome relief to those who supported Ms. Creighton in 2013 when she was ejected from the governing Fine Gael Party for keeping a pre-election commitment to the Irish public and voting against the Government’s disastrous abortion Act, which was introduced in the absence of medical evidence.

At that time, Ms. Creighton proved herself to be a politician with the courage of her  convictions.  The next few weeks will be an interesting time in Irish politics as the plans for her new party gradually unfold.

A hashtag #rebootireland has been started on Twitter to promote the new party’s website which is rebootireland.com.
