New Study Confirms Larger Families are More Pro-Life

In another example of a major breakthrough in academic research. something called PsyPost tells us that “according to new research published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences” (drumroll please) “New research suggests large families have made socially conservative views more prevalent.”

The title of the study, “Differential fertility makes society more conservative on family values,” and it was authored by Tom S. Vogl and Jeremy Freese.

The quotes from Vogel in the story drip with condescension, not exactly a surprise, toward larger families who (another breakthrough) are not as secular as their betters. “So-called family values” are, naturally, in quote marks to clue us in that these larger families are just clueless.

Get this: “’Natural selection is a silent warrior in America’s culture wars,’ the researchers wrote in their study,” Eric W. Dolan of PsyPost tells us.

And, no, I am not making this up.

Impact on abortion? Dolan says, “The association between the number of siblings and attitudes was responsible for increasing opposition to abortion from 53% to 57%.”

Vogel and Freese based their analysis on “data provided by 12,017 participants between 2004 and 2018 during the General Social Survey, a nationally representative survey of U.S. adults.”

Okay, so why does having more siblings result in heightened opposition to abortion? The “causal pathways” are unclear but  “mostly,” Dolan writes, it’s “explained by greater religiosity and lower educational attainment.”

Oh, yes, those dumb breeders, who no doubt (as then candidate Obama told an audience in 2008) also “cling to their guns” as well.

One other quick thought. In the abstract that goes with the study, we’re told, “This pattern implies that differential fertility has increased and will continue to increase public support for conservative policies on these issue.”

Add to that the caption on the picture that accompanies Dolan’s article. It reads “Large families in the United States are more likely to hold culturally conservative attitudes and this differential fertility can help sustain large pockets of opposition to change, according to new research published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.”

Yikes. Things are going to get worse!

“Large pocks of opposition to change,” which, of course, is synonymous with missing the boat, being behind the curve, backward looking, etc., etc.

A less biased and one-sided reading would see that a resistance to annihilating 900,000 unborn babies a year, 61 million+ since 1973 is not a rearguard action but the forward operating base of an army of compassion.

What Vogel and Freeze dismiss as an impediment to progress is, in fact, the expression of the very finest qualities in mankind. Standing up for the powerless and the discarded is a privilege and a blessing beyond measure.

Standing athwart the forces of death is built on the recognition, as pro-life President Donald Trump said in his historic July 3 speech at Mt. Rushmore, that “Every child, of every color — born and unborn — is made in the holy image of God. “
