Democrats Love Abortion: New Poll Shows 68% of Democrats Favor Abortion on Demand

A new poll indicates growing support for legalized abortion among Democrats.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll found 68 percent of Democrats say abortion generally should be legal, an 8 percent increase from 2016. In contrast, 61 percent of Republicans said abortions generally should be illegal; and 52 percent of respondents overall said abortions generally should be legal.

Democrat support for abortion is up, but it is unclear if the poll shows growing public support for abortion or just a party that is increasingly pro-abortion. In the past two years, Democratic Party leaders and donors have been pushing out pro-life candidates and voters by adopting radical policies that demand support for abortions for any reason up to birth and taxpayer-funded abortions.

With the mid-term elections coming up in November, the poll also asked about voters’ priority issues, and abortion was not one of them. Just 9 percent of Democrats said abortion is the most important issue to them.

“Abortion rights have been kind of an also-ran issue,” Jeremy Freese, a professor of sociology at Stanford University, told Reuters. “I’m not saying it’s not there as an issue, but I wouldn’t say that it’s risen to the level of being one of the defining issues.”

But that is not the picture presented by pro-abortion Democrat leaders and the mainstream media, especially in light of President Donald Trump’s recent Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh. They have highlighted Roe v. Wade and abortion on demand as a key issue in Kavanaugh’s confirmation.

Reuters noted this in its report:

Some Democrats, including New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, have made abortion rights front and centre in their campaigns ahead of November, hoping to energise supporters after U.S. President Donald Trump’s nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

If Kavanaugh, a conservative, replaces Justice Anthony Kennedy on the top U.S. court, he could tip the balance and help overturn the landmark Roe vs. Wade ruling that legalized abortion.

Campaigning on abortion rights might benefit some Democrats’ fundraising efforts for the mid-term elections, Freese said, but it is hard to gauge whether it will further motivate people to vote.

Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion chain in America, is spending $30 million to back pro-abortion candidates in the upcoming election.
