Students for Life of America announced today a strategic effort to call on U.S. Senators in key states to defund Planned Parenthood at the first available opportunity. The five states being targeted include West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Kentucky.
This spring campaign follows a series of national campus tours that focused on Planned Parenthood’s deadly legacy of harming women and their pre-born infants (#Sockit2PP) and on Planned Parenthood’s record of harvesting the body parts of aborted infants for resale while raking in more than half-a-billion in tax monies (#WomenBetrayed).
Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins observed that defunding the nation’s largest abortion vendor to redirect scarce resources to real medical centers “is priority number one for students in the more than 1,200 chapters working with us nationwide.
“This tour is even more significant in light of Planned Parenthood’s announced effort to spend $20 million dollars in an attempt to keep politicians in office who will force taxpayers to continue to give the abortion Goliath more than half-a-billion dollars annually,” said Hawkins. “We don’t need Planned Parenthood, but with fewer women choosing them all the time, they sure need our money.”
She continued: “We know that the voters of these states support pro-life politicians, as they all voted for pro-life Donald Trump in 2016. It is time for the U.S. Senate to be held accountable for their actions and to vote to permanently defund Planned Parenthood. We also want pro-life Senators, such as Senator Mitch McConnell, to know that we support senators who vote to Defund Planned Parenthood. The Pro-Life Generation is going to ensure that politicians work to save the preborn.”
Students for Life groups in the five key states will be aggressively calling on their senators to defund Planned Parenthood, no matter their party affiliation. The groups will be calling and writing Senators, tabling on campuses, churches, and community events, and hosting speakers and educating their peers on the importance of defunding Planned Parenthood. As mid-term elections get closer every day, the Pro-Life Generation will be energizing and mobilizing their Millennial peers to vote pro-life and put pressure on politicians of every party to defund Planned Parenthood.
