Today the Ohio Senate approved legislation that would require abortion businesses to treat the bodies of aborted babies humanely after the abortion.
The bill came about after Planned Parenthood abortion clinics were caught dumping aborted babies in landfills. The abortion business pays to have aborted babies “steam cooked” before dumping them in landfills.
The bill requires that the remains of aborted children are given humane burial or cremation and increases informed consent by requiring full disclosure to women pursuing abortions of their options for the aborted baby’s treatment. The legislation was introduced when Attorney General Mike DeWine revealed Planned Parenthood to be sending aborted children’s remains to landfills.
Today, Ohio Right to Life’s Unborn Child Dignity Act (S.B. 28) was approved by the Ohio Senate, 24 to 9. The Unborn Child Dignity Act is sponsored by pro-life Senator Joe Uecker and it will now move on to the Ohio House of Representatives.
“Victims of abortion deserve compassionate and humane treatment,” said Mike Gonidakis, president of Ohio Right to Life. “The Unborn Child Dignity Act grants that common decency to the thousands of children lost each year to abortion statewide. Ohio Right to Life is thankful to pro-life Sens. Joe Uecker, Bill Coley, and Senate President Larry Obhof for their leadership on this important legislation.”
Ohio Right to Life prioritized The Unborn Child Dignity Act after the release of viral undercover videos in which top officials at Planned Parenthood were caught discussing the trade of aborted baby body parts. Later, state investigators discovered that Planned Parenthood locations in Ohio contracted with waste disposal companies that deposited the remains of aborted children in landfills. The Senate Government Oversight and Reform Committee passed this legislation out of committee last week.
“Every human life has inherent value,” said Gonidakis. “Today, the Ohio Senate sent this message loud and clear.”
“With careful attention to detail and sincere compassion for all victims of abortion, the Ohio Senate is leading the state’s efforts to recognize and respect the dignity of every human person,” said Kayla Atchison, director of external affairs for Ohio Right to Life. “While we know there is nothing dignified in the act of abortion itself, we believe that this legislation is necessary for ensuring respect for the dignity of abortion’s victims.”
“Through their own words and actions, America’s abortion industry continues to provide Americans with a haunting picture of abortion,” said Atchison. “Whether by trading the hearts and lungs of aborted children or burying them somewhere in a landfill, Planned Parenthood continues to show us the truth about abortion and compel us to action. By requiring the humane treatment of aborted children, we can ensure that even in their brutal deaths, these unborn children retain their dignity.”

Republican Representative Kyle Koehler says that discovery of what Planned Parenthood does with aborted babies moved him to sponsor legislation to require the burial or cremation of an aborted fetus.
“Somehow being able to tell my children that the reports of selling baby body parts are possibly not true because the actual truth is that they may be throwing them into Ohio landfills does not make me feel any better,” said Koehler.
Attorney General DeWine opened his investigation of Planned Parenthood’s surgical facilities following the release of an undercover video showing Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s Senior Director of Medical Services admitting that the organization harvests and sells parts of aborted babies. This is the second series of legislative action that responds to the scandal, following behind the de-funding of Planned Parenthood which was signed by Governor John Kasich in February.
The Planned Parenthood abortion business in Ohio whose three clinics were caught illegally dumping aborted babies at landfills has struck back at the very state officials who caught them breaking state law. The abortion company filed a lawsuit against state officials claiming the investigations that resulted in catching the abortion business were politically motivated.
“All three Ohio Planned Parenthood affiliates have sent fetal remains to companies which disposed of the fetuses in landfill,” the investigative report indicates. “Additionally, the Planned Parenthood facility in Bedford Heights stated it uses only one company for disposal. However, that company stated to investigators it does not accept fetal remains for disposal as a corporate policy.”
“Disposing of aborted fetuses from an abortion by sending them to a landfill is callous and completely inhumane,” DeWine said. “It is important the public be aware that these practices are taking place at these Ohio facilities.”
The Attorney General argues that this is in violation of Ohio Revised Code (3701-47-05) which requires that aborted fetal remains be disposed humanely.
Ohio leaders began the investigation in July after Planned Parenthood was caught potentially breaking multiple federal laws to sell the body parts of aborted babies. Numerous other states also began investigations of the nation’s largest abortion business.
