Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards on Abortion: “We Will Never Give That Up”

One of the first considerations of public speaking is to know your audience, and Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards sure does.

When she talks with the mainstream media or general public, Richards often downplays the abortion side of Planned Parenthood, claiming (falsely) that abortions are just 3 percent of what they do and touting the non-abortion health care services that they provide. Sometimes she even has falsely claimed that Planned Parenthood helps prevent abortions.

But that is not the abortion chain’s goal at all; and this quickly becomes apparent when Richards talks with abortion supporters. Among friends, Richards and other Planned Parenthood leaders make it clear that aborting unborn babies is central to their group’s mission.

During a talk Thursday at the New York Women’s Foundation’s annual Celebrating Women Breakfast, Richards vowed that Planned Parenthood will “never give up” aborting unborn babies.

Elle reports Richards began her speech to the pro-abortion women’s group by praising people for supporting her abortion chain.

She thanked the “thousands of clinicians and escorts and doctors and staff who got up this morning and walked through picket lines all across this country to provide health care to women in America, including safe and legal abortion. And we will never give that up.”

Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest abortion chain. It aborts more than 300,000 unborn babies every year, and makes hundreds of millions of dollars doing so. It receives hundreds of millions more in taxpayer dollars each year from the federal government, something Congressional leaders are working to end. The U.S. House passed a bill to defund the abortion chain earlier this month, and the U.S. Senate is working on similar legislation.

SIGN THE PETITION! Congress Must De-Fund Planned Parenthood Immediately

Richards brought up the Congressional efforts Thursday during her talk.

“The day that speaker Paul Ryan announced that he was going to not only repeal the ACA, but start blocking the millions of patients from coming to Planned Parenthood, you could not get a call into Congress,” she said. “And one of the studies I’ve read has said that of the thousands of calls going into Congress to resist, 86% are being made by women.”

LifeNews discovered the so-called study that Richards referred to was nothing more than a liberal activist group’s poll of its own participants. Elle did not bother to fact check Richards’ claim, even though it did link to the poll.

This is not the first time Planned Parenthood leaders have made it clear that aborting unborn babies is a big part of their goal.

Earlier this year, Planned Parenthood refused an offer to receive an increase in taxpayer funding if it stopped doing abortions. Richards called the idea “obscene and insulting,” and made it very clear that abortions – not women’s health care – are an essential part of Planned Parenthood.

But Richards and other Planned Parenthood leaders also know that most people are troubled by abortion and promoting it does not win support with the general public. So they tend to guard their words when they know the general public is listening.

The problem is that many mainstream and liberal news outlets support the abortion chain unquestionably, and the public often does not hear just how pro-abortion Planned Parenthood really is.
