British Government Bans the Term “Expectant Mother” Because It’s Supposedly “Non-Inclusive”

It’s one thing for the government to try to defund abortion facilities in which federal funding is allocated or pass laws forbidding sex slavery. However, the British government is now banning the term “expectant mother” out of what it says is political correctness to the transgender population, Red State reports.

The British Medical Association wants people to refer to those carrying children as “pregnant people” so as not to offend transgender people, the Telegraph reports.

“NHS doctors have been told not to call pregnant women ‘expectant mothers’ because it might offend transgender people,” Red State reported.

The report continues: “The astonishing warning comes in official guidelines issued by the British Medical Association to its 160,000 members, which says mothers-to-be should be referred to as ‘pregnant people’ instead. The controversial advice to doctors in hospitals and general practice comes just weeks after it emerged that a Briton who was born a girl but is changing to a man put his operation on hold to have a baby.”

Red State continues: “Four-months pregnant Hayden Cross, 20, is legally male and has had hormone treatment but not sex-change surgery. There are no other known cases of a transitioning person becoming pregnant in the UK, but official figures show 775,000 women give birth in Britain every year.”

Not everyone agrees with the political correctness that is taking over the western world. The Rev. Philip Egan, a Catholic Bishop of Portsmouth, said the move could lead to “great confusion and harm,” according to the Telegraph.

“It is Orwellian, isn’t it?” Bishop Egan continued. “Another example of people trying to control our thoughts and the way we speak.”

“We know that biological females are the pregnant ones but trans people are parents too,” said Heather Ashton, a member of a transgender support group, in an interview with the Telegraph.

Ashton continued: “And this is massive step forward to prevent discrimination against them. The fact that the terminology is changing can only be a positive thing for everyone who wants to be a parent and has the right to be a parent.”

Every child has two parents, a mother and a father. The right, blessing and ability to be a parent extends to all without redefining the terms of who has biologically been able to give birth and physically bear children since the beginning of time.

“As every doctor knows, only females can have children. To say otherwise is offensive and dangerous,” said Laura Perrins, a woman’s campaigner who described the British Medical Association’s advice as “anti-science, anti-woman and anti-mother” according to the Daily Mail.

“This will offend women up and down the country, and is an example of the majority of women being insulted for a tiny minority of people,” Perrins continued.

Others in British government agree with this sentiment.

Conservative MP Philip Davies commented, “If you can’t call a pregnant woman an expectant mother, then what is the world coming to?” He also described the move as “completely ridiculous.”

Furthermore, the British Medical Association does not want “biologically male” or “biologically female” to be terminology used at birth, the Daily Mail continues. Rather, gender should be “assigned” or “designated” at birth, according to the association.

According to the medical association: “Gender inequality is reflected in traditional ideas about the roles of women and men. Though they have shifted over time, the assumptions and stereotypes that underpin those ideas are often deeply-rooted.”

Michael Nazir-Ali, a former Roman Catholic Bishop of Rochester, stated to the Daily Mail: “I think it is sad that society is being pushed in this direction. God has made us man and woman, and mothers relate to their children in different ways than fathers. This ruling will confuse people about the vital role of mothers in bringing up their children.”
