Abortion Supporters Desperate as Ever to Hide the Truth That Kermit Gosnell Snipped Babies’ Necks

To put it mildly, we’ve been inundated with stories, opinion pieces, and diatribes about “fake news.” Of course, what constitutes fake news is not always but often in the eye of the beholder.

A subset—or predecessor—is rewriting history. In our area—defending the defenseless—there is probably no better example of pro-abortionists’ blatantly falsifying the record than abortionist Kermit Gosnell.

For newcomers, Gosnell is serving three consecutive life sentences for murdering three late term babies whom he delivered alive and then murdered by slitting their spinal cords. (There were no doubt hundreds more, but Gosnell destroyed the records, according to the Grand Jury report.) The West Philadelphia abortionist was also convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the 2009 death of 41-year-old Karnamaya Mongar of Woodbridge, Virginia.

This is the bone that sticks in the Abortion Industry’s craw, as the latest revisionist “editorial” from the pro-abortion site Rewire News makes abundantly clear. Jodi Jacobson’s analysis reminds me of the quote (often incorrectly attributed to Mark Twain) that “A lie will go round the world while truth is pulling its boots on.”

But “With ‘Shock-You-Drama,’ Anti-Choice Movement Creates New Vehicle to Recycle Old Lies,” you are also reminded that when a narrative is stock-full of error, misdirection, evasion of what is there for anyone with eyes to see, and pretend indignation, a full response would have to be ten times as long as the original.

So, here are just three of what could be 20 responses:

(1) Jacobson is not really denying the full horror of what Gosnell did. Like her pro-abortion cohorts, she wants to leave the impression they were Johnny-on-the-spot. This is flatly untrue. There are numerous examples but the best is what anyone who followed the case closely knows: the National Abortion Federation found Gosnell’s Women’s Medical Society “beyond redemption,” denied him membership in NAF, but told no one. So much for the Abortion Industry looking out for poor women of color. Jacobson is miffed because an upcoming docudrama about Gosnell dabbles in what she dismisses as “sensationalism” and because the public might draw the conclusion that Gosnell was not an “outlier.”

(2) Jacobson tells us the “supporters” of this “crudely made horror movie” also “seek to shame the media by claiming that Gosnell’s arrest and trial were not even covered by the press at all, a claim belied by just a few examples of the extensive press coverage here, here, here, here, and here.” Of all the nonsense in a post dripping in nonsense and non sequiturs, this takes the cake. Only the deliberately blind denies that the major media were willfully blind up until the trial—and even then, only a handful of media outlets bothered to show up. Kirsten Powers put it this way in an influential USA Today column: “You don’t have to oppose abortion rights to find late-term abortion abhorrent or to find the Gosnell trial eminently newsworthy. This is not about being ‘pro-choice’ or ‘pro-life.’ It’s about basic human rights. The deafening silence of too much of the media, once a force for justice in America, is a disgrace.”

(3) And then the pièce de résistance: “The reality,” Jacobson intones, “is that it was not lack of law or regulation, but rather lack of enforcement that allowed Gosnell to carry on for so long.” Holy Moly. Pro-abortionists fight requirements to clean up the abortion industry with every weapon in their considerable arsenal. There is not even a need to inspect—self-inspection will do just fine, thank you—because abortion is safe, safe, safe, and safe.

As for lacking enforcement, what did the Grand Jury’s report on Gosnell tell us? “After 1993, even that pro forma effort came to an end. Not because of administrative ennui, although there had been plenty. Instead, the Pennsylvania Department of Health abruptly decided, for political reasons, to stop inspecting abortion clinics at all. The politics in question were not anti-abortion, but pro. With the change of administration from Governor Casey to Governor Ridge, officials concluded that inspections would be ‘putting a barrier up to women’ seeking abortions. Better to leave clinics to do as they pleased, even though, as Gosnell proved, that meant both women and babies would pay.”

Nothing can ever “put up a barrier to women” seeking abortion, even if this allowed Gosnell to ply his murderous trade unhindered. (Remember, the only reason he was exposed was because authorities were looking for evidence that Gosnell was selling what turned out to be massive amounts of pills containing “the narcotic painkiller oxycodone and the generic version of the anti-anxiety drug Xanax,” according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. And Gosnell was peddling drugs illegally.)

These people have no shame.
