It’s official. House Democrats have re-elected radical abortion advocate Nancy Pelosi as their leader for another term in Congress.

Pelosi was able to fend off a challenge from pro-abortion Ohio representative Tim Ryan to reclaim her spot as minority leader. Pelosi had staved off challenges previously but this year’s campaign from Ryan focused on Donald Trump’s presidential victory and blamed Pelosi in part for Democrats failing to substantially improve their standing in Congress.

Pelosi responded to the challenge by including younger members and Democrats from states that Trump won and her leadership team.

Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) president Marjorie Dannenfelser told LifeNews in response:

“Nancy Pelosi is a chief purveyor of voter-rejected Democratic abortion extremism. Her re-nomination as Minority Leader signals Democrats would rather continue to be in the minority than stray from their pro-abortion orthodoxy. Their support for painful late-term abortion and taxpayer-funded abortion has left voters behind. It is a big loser among many demographics including the working class, religious voters they claim they want to win back. Pelosi’s re-nomination means more time in the wilderness for Democrats, and SBA List stands ready to work with those in the Party who are willing to wrestle the Party back from the abortion industry.”

The last significant challenge to Pelosi was in 2010 when Republicans regained the majority and moderate Democratic Rep. Heath Shuler of North Carolina challenged her. He won 43 votes.

Pelosi did not speak directly to her colleagues but instead had six supporters make the case for her. They divided their time among the slotted 11 minutes and all touched on the theme of the need for experience, according to a source in the room.

“I’m convinced Nancy Pelosi is best equipped to lead this caucus in what is a dangerous time,” said Rep. Bill Pascrell, D-N.J.

“We need the very best to lead us … No one is a better tactician than Nancy Pelosi,” said her California colleague, Rep. Adam Schiff.

Earlier this year Pelosi slammed the investigation into Planned Parenthood’s sale of body parts from abortion babies. She called the investigation “unAmerican.”

“What’s going on in the Congress today is, to borrow a phrase, unAmerican,” said House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) on Friday, adding that the committee is acting in ways “not seen on Capitol Hill since the days of Joseph McCarthy.”

Leading pro-life groups found it ironic that Pelosi and House Democrats would call for an end to the investigation o the anniversary of Kermti Gosnell’s conviction.

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List told LifeNews that Americans need to remember today is the three-year anniversary of the conviction of late-term abortionist Kermit Gosnell.

“During Kermit Gosnell’s trial America’s eyes were forced open in horror at the barbarism of late-term abortion. Three years later, we remain one of only seven nations to allow abortion on-demand after five months – a point by which unborn children feel pain,” said Dannenfelser.

“If that were not bad enough, we now know abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood harvest and sell the body parts of aborted children – all while they fight common sense standards aimed at protecting the health and safety of women,” she continued.
