Republican Sen. Marco Rubio won a second term Tuesday by defeating Democratic congressman Patrick Murphy, another key Senate race where a pro-life advocate defeated an abortion proponent.

Media outlets called it for Rubio moments after the final polls closed, increasing the GOP’s chances of keeping the Senate in Republican hands.

Karen Corss of National Right to Life told LifeNews Rubio has been a pro-life leader:

“Marco Rubio is pro-life. He opposes abortion on demand, and supports protection for unborn children. He has maintained a 100 percent pro-life voting record during his entire term in the U.S. Senate,” she said. “Rubio co-sponsored and voted to advance the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 36), legislation to protect unborn children who can feel pain by prohibiting abortion at 20 weeks, a point by which the unborn child is capable of experiencing great pain when being killed by dismemberment or other late abortion methods.”

“Rubio supports the Dismemberment Abortion Ban Act, a bill to ban a common and brutal method of abortion in which the living unborn child is torn apart limb from limb,”she added. “Rubio is a co-sponsor of the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act (S. 582), a bill that would enact a permanent, government-wide prohibition of taxpayer funding for abortion.”

“Rubio is a co-sponsor of the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (S. 2066), a bill to provide legal protection for babies who survive abortions.,” Cross continued. “Rubio voted for passage of a budget reconciliation bill (H.R. 3762) that would defund Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, while Patrick Murphy voted against it. Rubio voted to repeal Obamacare, including the provision that has resulted in federal funding of about 1,000 health plans that pay for elective abortion. He is committed to reversing the abortion-expanding and rationing effects of that law.”

America’s largest abortion business, Planned Parenthood, announced it had endorsed Florida senatorial candidate Patrick Murphy.

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List told LifeNews before the elction:

“Patrick Murphy and Planned Parenthood, the nation’s biggest abortion business, are abortion extremists. They oppose even the most modest pro-life reforms, including a common sense limit on abortion more than halfway through pregnancy and longtime bipartisan legislation to keep taxpayer dollars from being used for abortion on-demand. This endorsement confirms that Murphy will put the interests of the abortion lobby over Florida women, families, and taxpayers.

“The SBA List and Women Speak Out PAC Florida field team has knocked on more than 250,000 doors across the state, laying the groundwork for a Rubio victory over Murphy in November.

Not only are we working to turn out inconsistent pro-life voters, we’re talking to persuadable Democrats, including Hispanics, who are horrified to learn about Murphy’s support for forcing taxpayers to fund late-term abortion up until the moment of birth. His position is profoundly unpopular and we’re confident voters will reject it at the ballot box.”
