Abortion Supporter: “God Has Already Decided” It’s Okay With Women Abort Their Babies

A letter-writer in The State Journal-Register argued that God gave women the “responsibility” to choose abortion or life for their children. In an article published on Thursday, letter-writer Henry Piper said “the Lord has spoken” that women should have the “right to choose.”

Piper began his piece by recounting the pro-life argument that abortion goes against God’s will. Many religious pro-lifers believe that for every child, even those born into difficult circumstances, God has a plan for their lives. Yet Piper questioned whether it is God’s plan to give birth “even though it may not be best for the child.” He said instead, God wants women to use their “common sense” to decide whether their baby should live.

Piper did acknowledge that birth “is still a miracle and a blessing,” however he provided several examples where he felt abortion would be a better option than life. One was if the child would “…have a short, miserable life because of some disease?” He also asked if the mother would come to “hate this child because of rape or incest or guilt?”

Piper concluded with the biblical story of Adam and Eve. In Genesis 3:16, God tells Eve, “I will multiply thy sorrows, and thy conceptions: in sorrow shalt thou bring forth children.” Piper interpreted this passage to meant that “the woman would be responsible for childbirth,” and that a woman was therefore morally free to abort her child.

His piece did not acknowledge the beauty and potential within every life — the circumstances surrounding a birth have no reflection on the child’s ability or worth. Whether a child is conceived out of rape or during a difficult period in the woman’s life, God blesses the infant with life. The Bible consistently reveals the love God has for his children, and the potential each life has. Psalms 139:13 said from conception God already knows the plans he has for that infant, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.”
