Martin Luther King Jr.’s niece Alveda King recently shared her pro-life story at a “Sweet Legacy” fundraiser for St. Joseph Pregnancy Resource Center in Missouri. As keynote speaker, King emphasized the importance of pregnancy centers and the resources that they provide to moms and babies, News-Press Now reported.
King shared how abortion affected her own life. She said her mother was considering having an abortion but was persuaded by Alveda’s grandfather Martin Luther King Sr. to have the baby – Alveda herself.

King told the audience how they can become involved in the pro-life movement, as well as explained why pregnancy centers remain a vital resource for pregnant mothers.
“I speak to women all the time that are seeking abortion,” King said. “…Many times the answer will not be an abortion they are seeking — but just help, love and support and that’s the job of a pregnancy care center.”
King said abortion is never an acceptable option because of the negative effects abortion has on women, as well as their unborn babies.
“Abortions are connected to cervical cancer, depression, the breakdown of society. It’s not a good alternative because someone is going to get hurt or even die with the abortion,” she said.
Alveda King has long been a courageous activist for the pro-life movement. She said her famous uncle, Martin Luther King Jr., would have been pro-life.
“He once said, ‘The Negro cannot win as long as he is willing to sacrifice the lives of his children for comfort and safety,’” she said previously. “I know in my heart that if Uncle Martin were alive today, he would join with me in the greatest civil rights struggle of this generation – the recognition of the unborn child’s basic right to life,”
Today, King is a proud mother of six and grandmother of six. As a Christian pro-life leader, she works with Priests for Life and the Silent No More Awareness Campaign to protect unborn babies and their moms from abortion. Following in her uncle’s footsteps, she is fighting for the rights of the voiceless and inspiring pro-lifers to do the same.
