Tim Kaine, the Pro-Abortion “Catholic,” Officially Becomes Hillary Clinton’s Running Mate

The Democratic National Convention formally nominated Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine as the party’s vice presidential candidate by acclamation this afternoon.

Although there was a small possibility that Bernie Sanders supporters would disrupt the nomination, no one else garnered the 300 signatures necessary to have their name placed into nomination. Convention chair Rep. Marcia Fudge confirmed that Kaine’s name was the only name submitted for nomination and was the one to move to nominate Kaine by acclimation.

The pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List says Kaine is a radical who supports free abortions at taxpayer expense. It pointed out how Kaine made a “private” agreement with Hillary Clinton to support her plan to repeal the Hyde Amendment, longstanding bipartisan policy preventing taxpayer funding of elective abortions under Medicaid.

In response Susan B. Anthony List president Marjorie Dannenfelser said:

“Just 20 days ago Senator Kaine said he supported the Hyde Amendment, which stops taxpayers from funding abortion on-demand. What has changed? The Democratic Party has become so bound to the abortion industry that there is no room for conscience. Before he could be considered fit for the role of VP to Hillary Clinton, Sen. Kaine had to divest himself of even the appearance of moderation on the abortion issue. Last month, he even sponsored legislation to wipe out every state pro-life law on the books. He has received his reward and today Cecile Richards herself, the head of Planned Parenthood, gave her stamp of approval. There is no further left for the Democratic Party to go.

“Clinton, Kaine, and Richards are absolute extremists pushing the Democratic Party further and further on abortion, alienating the one-third of Democrats who call themselves pro-life. Susan B. Anthony List’s ground team has already knocked on more than 466,000 doors in battleground states reaching voters – including pro-life Democrats – confident that the Clinton-Kaine position in support of abortion on-demand, up until the moment of birth, at taxpayer’s expense, will be rejected at the ballot box.”

Recently, Washington, DC-based Fr. Thomas Petri sent out a series of tweets addressing the Catholic candidate’s pro-abortion views — with one saying Kaine should not present himself for communion in his church. That was after a Catholic bishop admonished the pro-abortion Democrat Time Kaine saying that he can’t reconcile his Catholic faith with abortion.

The Virginia politician is on record as trying to have it both ways — saying he is both a “traditional Catholic” and a strong supporter of abortion. Kaine has a pro-abortion record and the potential Clinton running mate is not fooling anyone. As LifeNews previously reported, Kaine said he is a “strong supporter of Roe v. Wade”  despite supposedly being a “traditional Catholic.”

SIGN THE PLEDGE! We Oppose Hillary Clinton!

“I have a traditional Catholic personal position, but I am very strongly supportive that women should make these decisions and government shouldn’t intrude,” Kaine said. “I’m a strong supporter of Roe v. Wade and women being able to make these decisions. In government, we have enough things to worry about. We don’t need to make people’s reproductive decisions for them.”

That wasn’t the first time Kaine has attempted to moderate his pro-abortion viewpoint. In an interview with Meet the Press, Tim Kaine, who may be chosen as the pro-abortion candidate’s VP, tried to mask his radical abortion views.

Leading pro-life groups know Kaine is pro-abortion.

“Like Hillary Clinton, Sen. Tim Kaine supports the current policy of abortion on demand,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “Like Hillary Clinton, Sen. Kaine is so extreme on abortion he opposes even the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, legislation to protect unborn children from abortion after 20 weeks, when they are capable of feeling excruciating pain during dismemberment or other late abortion methods.”

As a U.S. senator, Kaine has voted against the pro-life position every chance he got. Sen. Kaine voted to allow government funding of abortion providers, and he voted against legislation to require an abortionist to notify at least one parent before performing an abortion on a minor girl from another state.

Kaine took his most extreme pro-abortion action yet with his recent co-sponsorship of the so-called “Women’s Health Protection Act” (S.217), known to pro-lifers as the “Abortion Without Limits Until Birth Act.” This bill would nullify nearly all existing state and federal limitations on regulation of abortion, and prohibit states from enacting meaningful pro-life laws in the future. This revamped version of the long-stalled “Freedom of Choice Act” is a priority of the pro-abortion forces in Washington, D.C.

“Sen. Kaine is good at hiding behind his Catholic background – but no one should be fooled,” Tobias said. “His record, and his openly declared legislative goals, are as pro-abortion as they come.”
