Abortion supporters are exposing the vile roots of their position today as they celebrate the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn a Texas pro-life law.
The ruling reversed part of a pro-life Texas law that protects women’s health and has also saved the lives of thousands of unborn children and closed abortion clinics that can’t ensure adequate protection for women. The high court ruled 5-3 against the Texas pro-life law with Justice Stephen Breyer writing the decision.
One particularly horrendous, sexist tweet from The Daily Show got a lot of attention for encouraging Texas men to “knock someone up” – the implication being that the woman can simply have an abortion afterward to take care of the “problem.”
Celebrate the #SCOTUS ruling! Go knock someone up in Texas!

Though the tweet was meant to be funny, it quickly received a lot of backlash from people saying the joke went over the line. Even a number of people who identify as pro-choice said the joke was in very poor taste:
@TheDailyShow I’m pro choice, but this is in poor taste. — Zach Bright (@zacharybright) June 27, 2016
@TheDailyShow …so they can have an abortion. UGH! Delete this. U aren’t doing #prochoice any favors w/ this “joke” pic.twitter.com/MpXrJDTBZt

Pro-lifers also responded to The Daily Show with some strong comments condemning its unfeeling “joke”:
Just the fact that some people think abortion as birth control is funny just blows my mind. ? https://t.co/PkAymknyhv — Liberty Pike (@Liberty_Pike) June 27, 2016
Perhaps one of the best pro-life arguments of the day being accidentally made here.
Abortion harms women. #Brolife https://t.co/eCzjPT67Po

See, it’s funny because the pregnant woman you abandon will have less safe clinics to kill the baby you make. https://t.co/YNulHfdaZX — Mollie (@MZHemingway) June 27, 2016
FWIW, I appreciate the comedians having abortions in cars, Daily Show, Zack Ford tweets, etc. for being honest about their side.

This is in extremely poor taste. https://t.co/LURtXxi4pD — Morgan Chalfant (@mchalfant16) June 27, 2016

@TheDailyShow And you call conservatives mysogynists? Disgrazia!

After getting so much backlash, the show tried to justify the tweet:
Friends, we’re certainly not promoting abortions. Just excited about #SCOTUS reaffirming right to choose. — The Daily Show (@TheDailyShow) June 27, 2016
But people were not buying it:
@TheDailyShow seriously bad choice of joke. Pretty much literally anything else might have been better.

@TheDailyShow “We’re sorry if we offended you” isn’t an apology — (((Dracula))) (@CarolineEAnd) June 27, 2016
@TheDailyShow Pro-choice, but not laughing. That was awful.

@TheDailyShow we’re not promoting abortion. We’re just promoting abortion. — Christopher Freeman (@Christopheroes) June 27, 2016
