Planned Parenthood has found a strong ally in the Satanist groups of the Midwest.
The abortion business has been facing strong scrutiny since a series of undercover videos exposed its trafficking of aborted babies’ body parts. The undercover expose prompted dozens of state and federal investigations and legislation to crack down on its abortion practices; but abortion activists, including Satanists, have been fighting hard to thwart these efforts.
Breitbart recently described the Satanic Temple’s involvement as a “pro-abortion crusade to come to the aid of America’s largest abortion provider.” Planned Parenthood does about 320,000 abortions every year in the U.S., more than any other group.
In the Midwest especially, Satanic Temples have become some of Planned Parenthood’s most vocal supporters. According to the news outlet, Satanists have staged numerous counter-protests at pro-life rallies protesting the abortion business.
A Satanic Temple in Missouri even filed a lawsuit challenging a state law requiring that women wait 72 hours after their abortion counseling session to have an abortion. The law also requires that women be provided with a packet of information about their unborn child’s development, the risks of abortion and the resources available to women who choose to parent. The Satanists claimed the law violated women’s “free exercise” of their religious beliefs; but a judge threw out the lawsuit in February, LifeNews reported.
Despite its loss in Missouri, the Satanic Temple is urging women to challenge informed consent laws across the U.S., Breitbart reports.
In the past year, the Satanic Temple’s protests outside of Planned Parenthood abortion facilities have become more grotesque in nature. In April, pro-lifers outside of a Detroit, Michigan Planned Parenthood faced a disturbing scene when a group of Satanists arrived to counter-protest wearing baby masks and carrying whips.
Citizens for a Pro-Life Society organized the pro-life event as part of a larger #ProtestPP movement to expose the abortion giant’s deadly trade of aborting unborn babies and trafficking their body parts.
During the pro-life event, a local Satanist group arrived and conducted a disturbingly grotesque counter-protest. Some of the Satanists dressed in masks and diapers to look like babies, while others dressed in black, carried whips and flailed the “babies.” Others dressed as mock priests and nuns. They marched around the pro-lifers and acted out the disturbing scene in front of the pro-life banners, crying and crawling and waving their arms in a perverted theatrical display.
The Detroit Satanic Temple is well-known in Michigan for openly challenging pro-lifers’ work. Last winter, its leader Jex Blackmore wrote a blog about her experience aborting her unborn baby in Michigan. She called the experience “surreal.” Then on Good Friday in March, the group organized another counter-protest to mock pro-lifers who were holding an Easter prayer vigil outside of an Ann Arbor abortion facility, LifeNews reported.
