National Right to Life Working to Defeat “Pro-Life Traitor” Renee Ellmers

For a short time last year, Congresswoman Renee Ellmers was public enemy number one of the pro-life movement.

Congressional leaders had planned for weeks to bring up a bill to ban abortions after 20-weeks on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. But Ellmers sabotaged the bill by insisting that broad rape and incest exceptions needed to be added to the bill that many pro-life groups were worried would undermine the bill entirely and render the ban moot.

Ellmers caused a firestorm of controversy to the point that multiple pro-life candidates are running against her next year in the Republican primary in an attempt to put the seat in the hands of someone who is consistently pro-life.

Now, the National Right to Life Committee is working to defeat her in a primary election. As NRLC president Carol Tobias writes in an email to her organization’s members:

Can you believe that Renee Ellmers is running as pro-life…again?!

Let me explain.

Remember last year how National Right to Life’s model bill to ban abortion when unborn children can feel pain after 20 weeks was stalled in the U.S. House of Representatives for nearly five months?

The bill was expected to pass in late January of 2015.

But a handful of representatives blocked it; the worst of whom, led by Renee Ellmers of North Carolina’s 2nd congressional district, fought to weaken the bill!

Both behind the scenes and publicly in the press, Ellmers was the most outspoken representative opposing the bill, even though she had previously pledged to support it – and had even voted for the exact same bill in the previous Congress!

Nothing has the potential to do more damage to pro-life efforts than people who run as pro-life candidates back home in their pro-life districts and then stab the babies in the back when they come to DC and work against pro-life efforts.

Thankfully, we’ve been given the chance to send Rep. Ellmers packing. Redistricting in The Tar Heel State has put Renee Ellmers in a close primary contest against pro-life Rep. George Holding.

George Holding is a pro-life stalwart who was always taken a pro-life position – at home and in Washington. George Holding is the kind of congressman the babies can depend on.

The National Right to Life Victory Fund is working hard in the mail, on the phone, and on the internet to see that pro-life traitor Renee Ellmers is defeated and pro-life champion George Holding wins the June 7th Republican primary.
