Cecile Richards: “There is No More Fundamental Injustice Than a Lack of Access” to Abortion

A saccharine new article about Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards names her as one of CafeMom’s #MomsWhoInspire.

In the interview with Barbara Kimberly Seigel, Richards talked about her children, her mother and her work at Planned Parenthood to promote and expand abortion. The interview did not focus directly on abortion, though it is central to Planned Parenthood’s business: The abortion giant does more than 320,000 abortions a year.

Richards mentioned abortion several times, but she preferred to describe Planned Parenthood euphemistically as a “health care provider.”

Richards told Seigel: “If women were no longer able to access health care at Planned Parenthood or other affordable health care providers, they would be less able to control when, how often, and whether or not they’d like to mother. At Planned Parenthood we believe that all women should be able to make these decisions for themselves.”

“Health care” has become abortion activists’ new propaganda term. They use the term to lump abortion into the broad category. Calling abortion “health care” treats it as if it was just like any other medical procedure rather than something that kills an unborn child’s life.

Richards went on to talk about her own abortion, something she initially revealed publicly in 2014. She defended killing her unborn baby again in the interview with Seigel, claiming that women who abort their unborn babies are making responsible decisions.

“I had an abortion when I already had my three children. My husband and I had decided that our family was complete,” Richards said. “Women who are mothers, like all women who find themselves with an unexpected pregnancy, should have the ability to decide if, when, and how often to have children. In order to have the ability to make those decisions, they must have access to the full range of reproductive health care services, including abortion.”

Richards neglected to mention that women who have abortions already are mothers. The abortion simply makes them a mother of a dead baby.

Ironically, when asked what she believes her greatest accomplishment is, Richards answered, “My children are the best thing I’ve ever done in my life.”

The interview is clearly a propagandistic piece, painting Richards as a heroine for defending the legalized killing of babies in the womb. The piece became almost laughable when Richards implied that she made financial sacrifices by taking the job at Planned Parenthood. Her salary is a whopping $590,928.

According to the interview:

What is one piece of advice from your mom that will always stick with you?
She encouraged me to take this job at Planned Parenthood. Mom had a lot of good advice, but the most memorable for me was that public service was a noble calling.

She told me, “You could go somewhere else and make a lot of money, perhaps with less stress. But you will never have the kind of reward you get when someone looks you in the eye and says, ‘Thank you for making my life better.'”

I am so honored to feel that gratitude from our patients, supporters, volunteers, and staff every single day at Planned Parenthood.

Abortion supporters in the media have been eager to paint Planned Parenthood and its CEO in a positive light lately, especially after undercover videos showed its employees selling aborted babies’ body parts. But these puff pieces and their deceptive rhetoric cannot hide the ugly truth about what goes on at Planned Parenthood every day. Every year, more than 320,000 unborn babies lose their lives and countless women walk away wounded at the hands of the abortion giant.
