David Carrasco felt embarrassed and angry when he first discovered the truth about his life. In 2013, the young man learned that his biological mother had tried to abort him.

“It broke my heart and I was shocked,” Carrasco said in a YouTube video. “I never wanted anyone to know what she tried to do with me. I felt terrible, and I didn’t want anyone to know because I didn’t want to get judged.”

But after going to the San Francisco Walk for Life when he was 17 and hearing testimonies of other pro-lifers, Carrasco said felt motivated to share his story.

While his mother’s boyfriend was in jail, she hooked up with another man and became pregnant, Carrasco explained. She scheduled an abortion appointment, but when she got there, the doctor said she was too far along to have an abortion, he said.

His story continues:

My father was on drugs and he didn’t want the responsibility of a child …

She thought in her mind that the only way to solve this problem, which was me, … was for her to kill me. She began doing all kinds of drugs, hoping that they would kill the baby. She drank, she smoked, she wanted death. She also got in many fights, just hoping someone would punch or stab her stomach.

On Feb. 15, 1996, I was born a healthy baby boy with no side effects. … I have been with my biological grandma since I was one month old. I love my grandma.

Life is a blessing. I am a blessing. There isn’t a day when I don’t thank God – Thank you, God, for putting me on this earth. Thank you for keeping me strong. Thank you for everything. There isn’t a day, not one day!

We are all here for a reason. Killing an infant is excluding that reason. … Let your baby live. God let me.

David is one of many abortion survivors who are putting a face on the tragedy of abortion and the value of every human life. Melissa Ohden, Gianna Jessen and Claire Culwell are just a few others who defied all odds and survived their mothers’ attempts to abort them.
