When last we reported on Scott Bollig, the Kansas man had pleaded not guilty to spiking his ex-girlfriend’s food with an abortifacient which killed her 8- to-10-week-old unborn child. That was last September.
Last week, his attorney, Dan Walter, was unable to persuade District Judge Glenn Braun to dismiss a series of criminal charges against Bollig, paving the way for jury selection which began yesterday at the Trego County Courthouse in Wakeeney, Kansas.

In addition to the first-degree murder charge, Bollig also faces a felony charge of aggravated battery and a misdemeanor charge of distribution of adulterated food. In May, prosecutors also filed felony charges of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and aggravated battery.
As we reported last September, on January 26, 2014, Bollig allegedly crushed up mifepristone pills before sprinkling them on Naomi Burton’s pancakes. Their baby died January 31. Bollig was charged on February 20,and a two-day preliminary hearing was held in July.
As NRL News Today reported, WaKeeney Police Chief Terry Eberle testified that Bollig told police he gave Naomi Abbott the drugs hoping she would have an abortion.
However Bollig’s defense attorney challenged the admissibility of the confession. Following the preliminary hearing, Judge Braun ruled that the prosecution would be allowed to use the confession as evidence.

Hays pathologist Dr. Lyle Noordhoek performed the autopsy on the baby and was the preliminary hearing’s only witness. He testified that the gestational age to be 8-10 weeks and that the baby was developing normally, “which led me to believe some sort of process was interfering with the loss of oxygenation” leading to the placenta beginning to detach from the uterine wall.
Burton reported that Noordhoek “said he determined the cause of death was consistent with what would happen if a pregnant woman was given mifepristone.”
