Louisiana Makes It Official, Cancels Planned Parenthood Funding After It Sells Aborted Babies

In August, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal canceled a state contract with Planned Parenthood that provides the abortion company with family planning funding through Medicaid. Now the letter making that decision official has been sent to Planned Parenthood by the Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH).

In the letter, Kathy Kliebert, the Secretary for DHH, said that based on initial findings from Louisiana’s investigation into Planned Parenthood they would be terminating their current contract. She explained that the organization violated Louisiana Administrative Code and misrepresented themselves in previous letters sent to DHH in July and August.

As LifeNews previously reported, earlier this summer Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast claimed that they were not involved in organ harvesting at any of their facilities after videos were released showing their top executives haggling over the cost of aborted baby body parts. However, the fifth video released by Center for Medical Progress shows the Director of Research for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, Melissa Farrell, bragging about the Texas branch’s long history with fetal tissue sales and their ability to deliver fully intact aborted babies.

Kliebert explained, “DHH believes that PPGC misrepresented its action therein and had contradictions within the body of the letter and with the statements and admissions made in the CMP videos, including but not limited to the video released on August 4, 2015 and taped in April of this year, containing conversations with PPGC senior management, including the PPGC director of research and PPCFC facility director.”

Casey Mattox of Alliance Defending Freedom applauded Louisiana’s decision to terminate their contracts with Planned Parenthood. He said, “Not one more penny should go to Planned Parenthood, a billion-dollar abortion dealer caught on camera negotiating the sale of hearts, lungs, and livers from aborted babies. Gov. Jindal and Louisiana have taken decisive action to treat Planned Parenthood like any other government contractor and stop tax funding for this ethically and legally challenged abortion business.”

He added, “Planned Parenthood has a long track record of covering up child sex trafficking, and even the Obama administration’s Department of Justice has accused it of waste, abuse, and potential fraud. Our tax dollars instead should fund local public health clinics, which exponentially outnumber Planned Parenthood locations and are not tainted by constant scandals and misdeeds. America doesn’t need Planned Parenthood.”

Governor Jindal was among the first to express outrage over the Planned Parenthood videos and exercise the state’s right to terminate Planned Parenthood’s Medicaid provider agreement.

After the first video was released, he said, “Today’s video of a Planned Parenthood official discussing the systematic harvesting and trafficking of human body parts is shocking and gruesome. This same organization is seeking to open an abortion clinic in New Orleans. I have instructed Louisiana’s Department of Health and Hospitals to conduct an immediate investigation into this alleged evil and illegal activity and to not issue any licenses until this investigation is complete. I am also asking the FBI to assist DHH in investigating this alleged criminal activity by this organization.”

Then, in a statement, he added, “In recent weeks, it has been shocking to see reports of the alleged activities taking place at Planned Parenthood facilities across the country. Planned Parenthood does not represent the values of the people of Louisiana and shows a fundamental disrespect for human life.  It has become clear that this is not an organization that is worthy of receiving public assistance from the state.”
