In Iowa, presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is out with a pro-life television ad condemning Planned Parenthood for their abortion and organ harvesting business. Breitbart News reports that the Cruz campaign spent $33,000 for the ad to air on a Fox News Channel in the Des Moines area. The ad will also air on radio stations nationwide.
The national spokesperson for the Ted Cruz campaign, Rick Tyler, said the following about Planned Parenthood’s negotiations with organ harvesting companies: “The law about selling body parts is clear. It’s a felony, so it needs to be investigated. The videos indicate there is lots of evidence they are selling the body parts of unborn children.” In five undercover videos released by the Center for Medical Progress, Planned Parenthood’s top officials are haggling over the price of aborted babies’ body parts, discussing ways to alter abortion procedures to obtain salable organs for harvesting and admitting to finding ways around laws that prohibit the sale of fetal “tissue.”
In the Cruz ad, a narrator asks, “How did America become a country that harvests organs from unborn children? And who has the courage to stop it? Ted Cruz will prosecute and defund Planned Parenthood. Help Cruz restore American values.” The ad concludes by inviting viewers to attend a “Rally for Religious Liberty” on August 21st in Des Moines.
As LifeNews previously reported, Sen. Cruz indicated that he supported a government shutdown in the wake of the Planned Parenthood scandal.
He told The Hill, “I believe we should use every and any procedural tool available to defund Planned Parenthood.” Later when asked if it would be worth shutting down the government, Sen. Cruz said, “I think that is an excellent question for you to ask every Democrat, if they’re willing to try to shut down the government in order to force continued taxpayer funding for an organization that has now been caught on film apparently repeatedly admitting to multiple felonies in buying and selling body parts in direct contravention of federal criminal law.”
After the Center of Medical Progress released the first video, Sen. Cruz responded by demanding an end to taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood. He said, “Today’s news regarding allegations that Planned Parenthood is possibly selling the body parts of the babies it has aborted is sickening. There is no place for taxpayer funding of organizations that profit from taking away innocent life, much less profiting off the bodies of the lives they have stolen. Congress should immediately begin an investigation of Planned Parenthood’s activities regarding the sale and transfer of aborted body parts, including who is obtaining them and what they are being used for.”
Other candidates running for president, such as Jeb Bush, Carly Fiorina, Rand Paul, Scott Walker, Dr. Ben Carson, Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum and Bobby Jindal echoed similar sentiment and disgust for the videos exposing Planned Parenthood’s lucrative business.
For example, during the first round of the Republican presidential debate, Louisiana Gov. Jindal said, “Planned Parenthood had better hope that Hillary Clinton wins this election. Because I guarantee you, under President Jindal, January 2017, the Department of Justice, and IRS, and everybody else that we can send from the federal government, will be going into Planned Parenthood. This is absolutely disgusting, and revolts the conscience of the nation. Absolutely we need to defund Planned Parenthood.”
He concluded by highlighting what he did in Louisiana to halt Planned Parenthood’s activities. He said, “In my own state, for example, we launched an investigation, asked the FBI to cooperate. We just earlier this week kicked them out of Medicaid in Louisiana as well, canceled their provider contract, they don’t provide any abortions in Louisiana.”
