Hours after Hillary Clinton unleashed a verbal attack on pro-life Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio, the Florida senator fired back.

Hillary Clinton on Monday launched a verbal offensive at Marco Rubio — trashing both his age and gender as she took issue with comments he made during last week’s Republican debate saying he supports protecting unborn babies conceived in rape and incest from abortion.

Clinton told reporters,”When one of their [the GOP’s] major candidates, a much younger man, the senator from Florida, says there should be no exceptions for rape and incest, that is as offensive and troubling a comment as you can hear from a major candidate running for the presidency.”

“I know it makes great TV. I think the guy went way overboard, offensive, outrageous – pick your adjective – but what Marco Rubio said has as much of an impact in terms of where the Republican Party is today as anybody else on that stage and it is deeply troubling,” Clinton said.

Clinton said the GOP candidates “brag about slashing women’s healthcare funding. They say they would force women who have been raped to carry their rapist’s child.”

Now, Rubio is firing back and Clinton’s pro-abortion views and released the following statement:

“Hillary Clinton supports abortion even at the stage when an unborn child can feel pain; she has defended partial birth abortions as a ‘fundamental right;’ she opposes requiring parents to be notified that their minor daughter is having an abortion; she supports funding Planned Parenthood even after they have been exposed for their role in selling the organs of unborn children; and she supports using taxpayer money to pay for abortions overseas. Hillary Clinton holds radical views on abortion that we look forward to exposing in the months to come.”

His campaign said Clinton targeted Rubio because she sees him “as a real political threat.”

Commenting on the Rubio-Clinton battle, one pundit at conservative Hot Air wrote: “She’s more interested in discussing Marco Rubio’s answer at the debate about opposing abortion exceptions for rape and incest. The Clintons, at least for now, are still betting that they have more to fear long-term from Rubio than from Trump.”

During the debate, Rubio said future generations of Americans will look back on the United States and regard us someday as barbarians for having legalized abortion.

“I believe that every single human being is entitled to the protection of our laws, whether they can vote or not. Whether they can speak or not. Whether they can hire a lawyer or not. Whether they have a birth certificate or not. And I think future generations will look back at this history of our country and call us barbarians for murdering millions of babies who we never gave them a chance to live,” Rubio said during the debate.

“What I have advocated is that we pass law in this country that says all human life at every stage of its development is worthy of protection,” the GOP presidential candidate continued. “In fact, I think that law already exists. It is called the Constitution of the United States.”

Rubio added that he does not specifically support rape or incest exceptions, saying that “[while] I think both of those instances are horrifying…I personally believe you do not correct one tragedy with a second tragedy.”

“The value of life is timeless,” he responded. “Science has decided that it’s human life. ….Abolustely it has? What else can it be? It can’t turn into an animal. It can’t turn into a donkey.”

In a new interview, Rubio defended his pro-life views.

“A rape is an act of violence,” he said, “it’s a horrifying thing that happens, and fortunately the number of abortions in this country that happen due to rape are very small. Less than 1% of the cases but they happen and they’re horrifying and a tragedy and I recognize that.

He also said: “I don’t say it’s easy. But when asked to make a decision between two very hard circumstances, I personally reached the decision, if I’m going to err, I’m going to err on the side of life.”
