Those Senators who voted to keep Planned Parenthood funded, voted in favor of abortion, politics and precedent, but not women’s health
On Monday evening, 45 Senators voted against advancing a Senate bill to defund Planned Parenthood. While pro-life Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was one of the 45 to vote no, he did so to allow the vote to be brought up again at another time.
The vote still means that 53 Senators voted to advance such a bill which would defund the nation’s largest abortion provider and send that money to actually increase women’s health services by funding Federally Qualified Health Centers instead. Such a number, while not the necessary 60, is still noticeable in that it was a majority.
The Senate debate, as has been reported on, was full of Democrats calling out their Republican colleagues of taking away women’s health care.
Such claims are ridiculous, and are truly political in nature. Defunding Planned Parenthood does not leave women in the cold, but rather funds clinics which are certainly qualified, without providing what are considered at best morally dubious “services” such as abortion, and which are not breaking the law. The same cannot be said for Planned Parenthood though, as the evidence from the latest videos released by the Center for Medical Progress has been quite compelling.
LifeNews has reported consistently before on such videos which show top Planned Parenthood employees discussing their fetal parts business, which oftentimes involves modifying the abortion procedure so as to perform the illegal and barbaric partial-birth abortion.
While the allies of Planned Parenthood would claim that federal funding cannot be used for abortions, it still is not an excuse to fund Planned Parenthood at the expense of more legitimate, less controversial qualified health centers. Money is also fungible, and for every dollar the abortion giant gets for other services, they are able to free it up for abortions and financing pro-abortion candidates that much more easily.

With abortion still legal in this country, Planned Parenthood still has the legal authority–though many would dispute if any have the moral right, especially such a group marred in scandal–to perform abortions. Ensuring that taxpayer dollars don’t go to the nation’s largest abortion provider is not a complicated compromise.
Planned Parenthood is still being funded not because they are so deserving, and not for the sake of women’s health. The abortion giant is still being funded because the group’s political allies are working to protect Planned Parenthood, and thus the abortion industry along with it. Such a vote is in favor of politics, abortion, and precedent, but certainly not women’s health.
