Rhode Island Legislature to Hold Hearing on Bill to Legalize Assisted Suicide

State   |   Rhode Island Right to Life   |   May 25, 2015   |   6:00PM   |   Providence, RI

Senate Bill Number 598, which seeks to legalize Assisted Suicide in Rhode Island, will be heard on Thursday, May 28, before the Senate Judiciary Committee. The hearing will be held in Room 313 of the State House and should begin sometime between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.

National proponents of Assisted Suicide are flush with cash and probing various states to determine where to focus their formidable resources. While we do not expect the bill to proceed to a floor vote, it is very important to make a clear and loud statement that Rhode Islanders strongly oppose Assisted Suicide.

Assisted Suicide is bad medicine, and bad public policy that puts vulnerable populations at risk. It is a recipe for abuse of the elderly and disabled. The concern of the State of Rhode Island should be to improve access to legitimate care for all Rhode Islanders, especially those who are most vulnerable.
