According to the Center for Disease Control, drowning is responsible for more deaths among children ages 1-4 than any other cause except congenital anomalies. The major factor that effects drowning risk is a lack of swimming ability but research shows that participation in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning among children.

This is why parents are enrolling their children in swimming lessons at younger ages and babies are learning to kick, roll over, and hold their breath for short periods of time.

Not only can these lessons save lives, but they also make for very cute photos, which is why photographer Seth Casteel has decided to capture pictures of babies underwater. Casteel is known for his Underwater Puppies collection that features dogs swimming.
