Jessa Duggar, daughter of Bob and Michelle Duggar from the reality show, 19 Kids and Counting, and husband Ben Seewald have announced that they want to adopt. According to People magazine, Jessa said, “Even before we were married, we wanted to adopt. We hope to adopt a lot of kids. If God blesses us with biological kids of our own, it’s not going to quench our desire to adopt.” Ben added, “Kids are so important.”

Currently, the Seewalds are exploring the adoption process and finding out the details of bringing a child home. In the United States, there are over 120,000 orphans and 400,000 children that live without permanent families. While foster care and orphanages give children a temporary place to live, their need for a forever family doesn’t just go away. Children need consistent comfort, support, and love, and they don’t always get that in foster care.

Unfortunately, however, adoption is not as common as it once was because of social stigmas and misconceptions. There are many people that believe a child who is adopted cannot be loved as much as a biological child and that adoption can be a damaging option for a family.

But according to the U.S. Department of Health and Services, 85% of children who are adopted are in excellent or very good health, the same as the general population. And 81% of adoptive parents described their relationships with their children as very warm and close.

As LifeNews previously reported, Jessa Duggar has been very open about her pro-life views just like her parents. In fact, in 2014 she was criticized for linking the Jewish Holocaust with abortion after visiting the Holocaust Museum is Washington D.C. In a post on Instagram she wrote that pro-lifers should not sit idly by while the unborn, sick and elderly are being killed.

She said, “The sanctity of human life varies not in sickness or health, poverty or wealth, elderly or pre-born, little or lots of melanin [making you darker or lighter skinned], or any other factor. May we never sit idly by and allow such an atrocity to happen again. Not this generation. We must be a voice for those who cannot speak up for themselves. Because EVERY LIFE IS PRECIOUS. #ProLife.”
