Government-Funded Hospitals Admit to Fitting Three 10-Year-Olds With Birth Control Device

According to the Daily Mail, in the United Kingdom more that 3,000 14-year-olds and at least 6,300 girls aged 15 were given the contraceptive implant, Nexplanon. The device is inserted under the skin and releases the hormone progesterone to prevent pregnancy.

However, the controversy isn’t about the device itself, but about the fact that they are being given to children and some without their parent’s knowledge. Additionally, Nexplanon has not been tested on children; its ‘efficiency’ has only been established in women between 18-40; and the device can cause headaches, acne, nausea and mood swings in adults using them.

Unbelievably, since 2010 at least three ten-year-olds have also been fitted with the device. In England, 61 National Health Service (NHS) Trusts have admitted to fitting implants in minors, although there are probably more that haven’t been reported because they were unable to provide accurate numbers.

Norman Wells, a spokesperson from the Family Education Trust, told the Daily Mail: “Fitting young girls with contraceptive implants is quite simply indefensible. It is giving them the green light to engage in illegal sexual activity and robbing them of the protection that the age of consent law is intended to give. This casual and relaxed attitude towards underage sex is exposing young people to the most horrendous abuse.”

Wells continued, “The fact that the safety of these implants has not been established for girls under the age of 18 in itself means that health professionals are taking a massive risk with the immediate and long-term health of these girls. It is deeply disturbing that parents are frequently left completely in the dark and know nothing about the high-stakes gamble that is being taken on the physical and emotional well-being of their daughters. There needs to be an urgent review of the policies of NHS Trusts in relation to underage sex and the provision of contraception to children.”

A spokesperson from the Department of Health as well as University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust responded to these allegations. They said, “It is extremely rare that doctors prescribe contraceptives to under-13s, and while we would not comment on individual cases, the doctor is likely to be acting on serious concerns about exploitation or abuse. Guidance from the GMC states that doctors must as a matter of routine share information about sexual activity involving children under 13 with police or social services.”

The spokesperson from University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust said, “Only under extremely rare circumstances would a patient under the age of 13 ever receive a contraceptive implant. This is never taken lightly and would be a decision made between a healthcare professional and the parent or guardian as a result of health problems or in order to safeguard the child.”

Unfortunately, abusing parental consent laws is something the abortion industry does as well. As LifeNews previously reported, a British schoolgirl had her fourth abortion in 2012; and she was one of 200 teenage girls who have had repeat abortions before the age of 16, which is the age of legal consent in England.

That means abortionists are doing abortions on girls who are victims of statutory rape and, as is the case in the United States, they may not be reporting those rapes to authorities.

In addition to these violations, a 13-year-old girl was given the right to choose whether to have an abortion by a High Court judge. Mr Justice Mostyn ruled that the child was capable of making up her own mind as to whether or not to keep the child. Ultimately, it is incredibly tragic that children are being given contraceptives and having illegal abortions, not only because abortion has grave consequences— but also because it gives sexual predators the ability to abuse children without getting caught.
