The national chair of the Democratic Party is facing criticism today for using domestic violence language to trash the pro-life views of Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, who is up for re-election this year.

wassermanschulz2DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz said Walker and pro-life Republicans are “grabbing us [women] by the hair and pulling us back” during an event Wednesday in Milwaukee.

“Scott Walker has given women the back of his hand. I know that is stark. I know that is direct. But that is reality,” said Wasserman Schultz according the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

She added, “what Republican tea party extremists like Scott Walker are doing is they are grabbing us by the hair and pulling us back. It is not going to happen on our watch.”

Republican Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, who is pro-life, said she was “shocked” by the comments:

“I think the remarks were absolutely hideous and the motive behind them was despicable,” Kleefisch said.

Kleefisch called on Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke to “denounce these outrageous statements” made by the DNC leader.

Lily Adams, DNC deputy communications director, said in a statement, “Domestic violence is an incredibly serious issue and the Congresswoman (Wasserman Schultz) was by no means belittling the very real pain survivors experience.”

Wisconsin abortions have dropped thanks to pro-life laws Walker has signed.
