Alveda King, the niece of civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr., spoke at National Right to Life’s Prayer breakfast on June 27th. King is the Director of the African American Outreach for Priests for Life, and their mission is to activate pro-life leaders who will expose the disproportionate amount of black babies killed by the abortion industry.

Abortion ends the life of more African Americans than all other causes of death combined, including accidents, cancer, AIDS and violent crimes. In 2008 alone, abortion killed 363,705 African American babies. Although Black Americans only represent 12.6% of the U.S. population, they account for over 30% of all abortions.

alvedaking7During the breakfast, King praised African American Representative, Katrina Jackson (D-Monroe) who authored the Unsafe Abortion Protection Act (HB 388) in Louisiana. The Act will ensure that women who do choose abortion and experience complications, such as hemorrhage, uterine perforation, or infection from an incomplete abortion, receive the highest standard of care possible at a local hospital without any delays.

When Louisiana GovernorBobby Jindal signed the bill into law, pro-abortion activists said Louisiana was initiating a “war on women.” However, King said Rep. Jackson didn’t buy into the pro-abortion rhetoric. Instead, she proved to be a leader who stands up for African American women and unborn children.

Additionally, King shared about Priests for Life work to defund Planned Parenthood. In the abortion giants 2012-2013 annual report, they brag of their so-called “outreach ” to African American youth. However, their semantic gymnastics cleverly hide their true agenda.

King said, “Right now in America almost half of our babies are being killed in the womb, and in certain parts of America more of our babies are being aborted than being born. While we were marching in the sixties, a place was being prepared for us at Planned Parenthood. We were trying to get off the back of the bus, and they were going to have a space for us in the front of the abortion mill.”

Planned Parenthood’s founder, Margaret Sanger, once wrote about targeting minority communities in a 1929 letter to a colleague. Sanger said, “We don’t want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population.” So, is it a coincidence that 79% of Planned Parenthoodabortion facilities are located in minority neighborhoods? King didn’t seem to think so.

King has been at the forefront of many “freedom rides”, including going to the abortion facility of Kermit Gosnell to expose the crimes that took place at his Philadelphia “House of Horrors.” According to the Grand Jury report, one former employee said the following about Gosnell’s death chamber:

“The white patients did not have to wait in the same dirty room as black and Asian clients. Instead, Gosnell would escort them up the back steps to the only clean office.”

He continued,” Like if a girl, the black population was — African population was big here. So he didn’t mind you medicating your African American girls, your Indian girl, but if you had a white girl from the suburbs, oh, you better not medicate her. You better wait until he go in and talk to her first. And one day I said something to him and he was like, that’s the way of the world.”

This testimony only further proves that the abortion industry discriminates against minority women, and exposes their agenda to kill black babies in the womb.

Finally, Alveda King emphasized that we must not become weary as we move toward victory. Because of pro-life activists, the truth about abortion in the African American community is being exposed, states are enacting pro-life legislation and abortion numbers are decreasing. We must continue in the battle to protect all human life, until every person is, as Dr. Martin Luther King said, “Free at Last.”
